anyone know of early snow areas in WA state this year?

I know most of you are in Canada and already have a 400 foot base or something, but having just rebuilt my wife's Yamaha Rage and fixing the diamond drive on my Arctic Cat, I am itching to get out and test them without a long drive up to BC. The only place I can think might have some inches of...

would some sort of reverse snow probe work?

If you had a spring or air actuated snow probe on a backpack and were lucky enough to be oriented somewhat vertical with your head up, it would be interesting if the probe could punch up through the snow and unfurl an orange flag...maybe even act as a snorkel until you can be dug out. This is...

    fuel can solution for M8

Just wanted to share my solution to carrying a bit of extra gas on the trail...for myself or to help some unlucky soul. Sled is a 2011 SnoPro M8 153 Rack is a 23 inch made by Vortech Gas can is a 1.75 gallon Rotopak (but actually holds about 2 gallons). The can fits perfectly inside the rack...

    shovel mounting

I just put on the Vortech rack on my 2011 M8. I love the rack but wanted to try and make a place for my shovel (the one not in my backpack). I did a quick and dirty with some scrap angle aluminum and some rubber grips meant for holding round objects. I think it looks nice, but I am unsure of...

Our snow survival preps - opinions?

Hi all, My wife and I just started snowmobiling last year. Our first trip out we had a rental unit breakdown about 25 miles from our truck but were able to double up on our Yamaha Rage and return. We then decided to get a second snowmobile (2011 Arctic Cat M8) and keep them well maintained...

    Loctite your secondary bolt?

After finishing up my DD bearing upgrade, I just put back the secondary and torqued the bolt to about 35 ft-lb. Should I take it back out and blue loctite? I worry that it might make belt change a pain in the field... Opinions?

    How critical is track alignment?

I got the diamond drive upgraded to a 3203 bearing, cleaned out and installed back in my 2011 M8 SnoPro 153. Everything looks good, but I am having the hardest time getting the track alignment perfect. What looks good when I let the track coast to a stop on the stand changes when I tighten...

report your Diamond Drive failure at saferproducts.gov

I just reported the premature failure of my Diamond Drive in a 2011 SnoPro M8 153 with less than 300 miles. I felt this failure could cause an unexpected lockup of the drive/track leading to a serious accident and injury. If enough of us report this to www.saferproducts.gov, it is possible...

2011 M8 new owners CHECK YOUR DIAMOND DRIVE!!!

I just pulled my Diamond Drive on my nearly new (11 months owned) 2011 M8 SnoPro with less than 250 easy miles on it. The problematic bearing had already started to go (the cage is loose and out of the bearing) and there are at least 2 metal bits floating in the DD housing. This is a stock...
