A clutch kit is definitely best option. Also going to a 14-1 head will help bring performance up in the mid range and more torque throughout the powerband, both clutching and head will really help out in the deep powder, just remember to run premium.
Best is to come with someone or call ahead and plan out some riding.

Running lower grade fuel will cause faster carbon build up especially in the y-pipe and rave valves. the 800r is designed to run 91-94. You can run lower grade but performance and life will go down a bit so the extra expense is more or less cheap preventive maintenance
Different springs are available and another cool mod is some of the older style rave caps that had the red center are actually an adjuster for the spring. havent done it myself but worked on a couple guys sleds now that modded to fit those rave caps.
