You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Stealing someone's keys and riding away is pretty low. If that person is , let's say a diabetic , they could die on the trail.
Education is the answer most times.

We can improve the signage at staging areas as long as they follow the rules.

whoDEANie's got a point though. Is it actually legally closed to ATV's? Never been there so I don't know. I know on our groomed trails we have no legal way to keep them off. All we can legally do is make them buy a trail pass.

You bet, but I do think rider education should be mandatory. While most would disagree, I firmly believe it would take us a long way towards a safer, more responsible riding community.

Awesome, thankyou. Wish we had that option!

This has nothing to do with SRD supporting the snowmobile club and has everything to do with the fact that they don't want ATV's on that trail at all. As well as that works out for the snowmobile club, it is still the kind of area closure that we're should be trying to avoid.

I posted a comment on that youtube page letting him know it's a sled only area. We'll see what the response is (if any).

Its the problem with Youtube, guys are filming everything they do with the idea that the world wants to see it, instead they are incriminating themselves and other members of their group...everyone wants to be a hero on Youtube ..."look how cool I think I am, I got a GoPro"....who fawkin cares, his video is boring as fawk, just like most of the other helmet cam vids on Youtube.

Signage at the staging areas is a good idea but wouldn't it make more sens
e to have some signage at the beginning of hiway 940? This would at least give the quader a chance to turn around before heading down the 940 or maybe not.

just my 2 cents

if you can tell the guy he is not supposed to be there it may be all It takes, but to pull a key could get you In a world of hurt in a hurry. best to let srd handle it. the guy may be doing a grizzly study. don't look like they had done any damage to trail, just not a atv access trail.

Some people sled some people quad and some people do both and if there is nothing telling u that u cannot do one or the other how would u know that ur not aloud there I don't think that it's in the best interest of ohv community to get the law involved unless it's a reoccurring problem as this just adds fire to the trail closure fire I haven't been out that way but I have been to some areas that some crazy **** goes on and I speak my mind to to people involved and I've also cleaned up some real messes just to keep the law out of the situations

I always say its not a crime until someone gets jealous. Looks like this bunch would be better off in a Walmart parking lot. Same riding, not as far to drive. Anyway, they had some kids with them it looks like, leave them alone if there not hurting anyone!!

I get a kick out of people who say there is nothing telling me I can't do it so I am going to do it. Haha amazing.

It is the users responsibility to educate and make themselves informed of whatever action they are doing.

You can say "I didn't know I need permission to hunt in private land"

You can say "I didn't know I couldn't ride quads at Cataract creek"

You can say "I didn't know drunk driving is illegal, there is no sign!"

None of it will stand up in court. As operators of off highway vehicles you must try and educate yourselves and be responsible operators otherwise it just closes the areas for everyone.

As far as I am concerned it is in the best interest for this area to involve the law. They shouldn't be left along just because they are not hurting anyone doesn't mean they are not ruining the area for sledders. These people are breaking the law, what next? Going to run quads down there in the summertime as well? They wouldn't get out of the parking lot alive. The equestrian group would hang them.

It is a designated snowmobile area and that's the bottom line.

I agree too much controversy and areas get closed down altogether.. Sure don't take much to ruffle people feathers around here.. I sled... I quad... and I could care less about what others do unless it directly affects me.. my sled can handle going over a few quad tracks... no biggie.. If it bothers you guys so terribly you need to sit at the trailhead like a bouncer

It's not about not being able to handle going over quad tracks. It's a land use issue. The land is not designated for quads. It allows the use of snowmobiles during a specific period of time and only snowmobiles.

Pleading ignorance to that is what gets areas closed, not the controversy around it. It's Kananaskis Park country. Alberta parks allows the use of a snowmobiles in that area and people should be thankful of that. Condoning the actions of those people doesn't help the issue.

Your statement that you could care less what people do unless it affects you is arguably one made without any thought. When those areas are closed due to quaders riding in them it does affect you if you use the area.

This isn't a ATV ,UTV anti post. This area is a PARK. Wheeled OHVs are not allowed in the plan. That's it no if and buts. Think of it being Banff National Park. You cant use any motorized recreation there. You cant ride your OHV in Calgary city either.

If the area get used by wheeled OHVs there is a easy option for the government to just close it down to all motorized activity. That is what we don't want to see. This area is a GEM within a short distance from Calgary. It was set up many years ago and still remains today. I give Thanks for the Calgary Snowmobile Club to start taking care of this area as a club managed trail system. They are working hard to keep this area open and are doing what they can to self police the area to keep this area open for the future.

I'm sure you guys see the untouched powder off trail and obey the law and stay on the trail and pass it up. Good one. Why does everyone on here think this forum is read by everyone else in the country? Saying don't go there on here isn't going to stop someone if they don't read it here. Is there a sign at staging clearly stating no off-road vehicles? Can you post a pic please. if not pony up your beer money for the week (probably too much anyway) and post a fricken sign. Stop bitching about it and do something about it. lawfully.:twocents::deadhorse:
