Here we go again, a great winter of snowmobiling!

But, before that, how about some Trail Maintanence?

Do you have time to commit on: (Currently tentative)

October 25 & 26 - Back up weekend
Other possible times: September 20-21, 27-28, November 15-16, & 29-30.

Please let me know if you have time to volunteer to do some trail maintenance, and I will contact you back with "locked in" dates & plans.

Thanks to you all for indicating the weekend of the 25/26, here is the locked down plan:

Saturday, October 25, 2014,will be the main day for Trail maintenance and flood damage work - Oct. 26 is set up for items that do not get addressed on the 25th.

We will base out of the Etherington P.R.A. Parking Lot, please be there for 9 AM so that we can organize and have everyone leave the parking lot by 10 A.M. latest.

I will be trying to arrange overnight camping so that anyone willing to volunteer on Oct. 26 as well, can stay over night, if they choose.

Please bring quad (with licence and insurance) & trailer (if you have one - booth), chainsaw, hand saw, vegetation clippers, shovel, pick/pick-axe, long crow bar, and your big hearts.

More details to come, please let me know any specific questions.

Trail Maintenance Days October 25 – 26, 2014

After much planning and discussion, the date(s) have been set. I say "date(s)" as we would like to see as much effort toward Saturday, October 25, as possible, but are also planning maintenance activities for Sunday, October 26, for those who cannot make the 25
th. Also, we are still finalizing overnight camping arrangements, for those who would like to make it a weekend out at the C.C.S.A and help out for two days (more to come shortly).

Please R.S.V.P to trails@calgarysnowmobileclub.net if you would like to join in and help make the trails safe and clear for another season. If you do not have access to e-mail, please call me at 403 – 217 - 0860, and leave a message if I am not available and I will call you back.

Given the flood damage, part of the activities will be with the Backcountry Trail Flood Rehabilitation Program personnel, and flood specific situations. It is all "trail maintenance" work, but other activities will take place away from the streams/creeks and associated damage.

What to bring:

If you have a "quad" or side-by-side – with or without trailer – please bring it along (mobility is key for most work but not all)! In your e-mail, please supply your full name, vehicle description (i.e. 2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660), and license #, if you are bringing an O.H.V. (not motorcycle) as per government access rules. As well, a 3 - 6ft. crowbar/wrecking bar/pry bar, pickaxe, spade or flathead shovel, chainsaw & fluids, chainsaw-ing pants, work gloves, safety vest/helmet, knee pads, water jug/container, small backpack or gym bag, and bear spray (if you have it). If you can bring a Bobcat/skid steer, backhoe, or any other "larger" equipment please call me at 403 – 217 - 0860.

As with last year, there will be a hosted BBQ at the end of the day with hamburgers/hot dogs, condiments, chips, soda pop & water. If you have any suggestions for other items, please let us know.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT,

Scott, Organizer, C.C.S.A. Trails Committee, Calgary Snowmobile Club

Note for all,

The Backcountry Trails Rehabilitation Program people have received approval for the needed repairs to Etherington Creek Trail. We will be assisting them with two Bobcat/Skidsteers - brought by volunteers - as well as the necessary volunteers with chainsaws, shovels, and crowbars/wrecking bars. Others will be clearing other trails with ATV's, chainsaws, gloves, a sturdy back, and hopefully a smile! Please bring any safety equipment you have (ATV helmet, orange vest, bright coloured shirt/jacket, SPOT transmitter, satellite phone, chainsaw pants, steel toe boots, etc...). There will be a BBQ hosted afterwards by the Calgary Snowmobile Club.

That's the way to do it guys. Had a good day by the looks of things. Didn't get much time to talk to Scott at the snow show but looks like you are well on your way to making that a trail system again to be enjoyed by all
