Did you end up going out? I've never ridden sled East of Golden and am local to Calgary. Would love to meet up with someone who knows the local trails for a trail rip if conditions are good enough.

I was doing a little bit of testing out at Mclean last weekend. The snow was okay if you rode where there were previous tracks. Too bad they plow the road that heads west past the gravel pit. Really stupid really when they have a sign saying that it is a road for shared purpose and it includes snowmobiling on the sign. Do you go from Mclean or Sibal Flats when accessing Powder Face?

The powderface trail from the south end is bare gravel in most places. I had my dog team out there last week before the Chinook and ran 15 miles up the road and destroyed the plastic runners on the dog sled. They are doing work up there on yhe powderface due to floods.

We were in a meeting today and the road to Powderface is closed. gate closed and locked. Even the hiker and skiers were sad.

This is what was said. I don't even know where it is. Just saying

Gate is always locked Dec 1-May 15 unless they are logging. Access is from the north end, at the Dawson parking lot. No idea what conditions are like, no where near there right now but it is usually thin and the road tends to have large gravel areas on south facing sections. Basically only an option if there has just been a big storm.

Very much agree with this post!

Powderface bare ass mud. Was there last weekend with dogs for a walk (jan31). Gate closed but not locked. They are doing construction a few km in and are now plowing the road. Saw some old sled tracks along the side of the road where plow made banks so someone was there

I have heard this area needs a big storm before you can ride. Giver after the storm. Melts fast in the sun

I was told at my Kananaskis Trails Advisory Group (K.T.A.G.) meeting this past fall that the last bridge was replaced. I just e-mailed my government contact for the latest update.

Powderface is back in business for this coming winter, with all but one bridge replaced. The one location not replaced - I am told, on the Elbow Loop portion - is now very wide and "low", so the Gov't feels that enough snow will be present. They are currently contemplating/looking for a place to re-route the trail and install a shorter bridge. I am looking forward to getting there after the first big dump after Dec. 1, this year.

Yeah, we've been in there a few times since the repairs. There was a trapper working back there last winter, and though the last bridge wasn't in yet, the river had pretty solid ice bridges. I wouldn't wait till March or go in a long Chinook though.
