Looking for somewhere close to calgary to test out an older sled this weekend (new to me though). Wondering if the south ghost trails would have enough snow after the blizzard we got this week.

Near as I can tell from the PLUZ map, there's no closures (unlike MacLean till Jan 1st).

Anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't drive up there this weekend and go for a rip?

Anyone know what trail conditions are like?

I would assume the trails in Waiparous would be great for sledding right now before the ATVers get on the trails. There should be a lot of snow and a great run for an old sled might be along Waiprous Valley Road up to 4 corners.

Following the two other suggestions, I would think that Cataract Creek Snowmobile Area west of Longview, would be of the same driving distance from Calgary (1 1/2 hour from my door in Glamorgan). If you choose to go there (when the weather warms up), I would suggest unloading at the Lost Creek Road Gate (formerly referred to as the Sawmill Gate Road at approximately Kilometer 10), taking the snowmobile trail on the uphill side of the road (Valley Bottom Trail) and turn/go left/south. This trail turns into the Cataract Creek Trail, and you can choose two loops currently; first is the trail itself up to the end and back on the Cataract Loop Trail, or second - cross the Cataract creek midway up the valley, take Cummings Creek trail south to the "cross over trials", turn right/west, and proceed to the route north, which is the Lost Creek Road, back to Cataract Creek Trail. Best of what is there for now. Refer to this link to receive the best up-to-date information:https://www.snowandmud.com/s-w-alberta-206/cataract-etherington-2013-14-thread-82808.html
