Anyone planning on riding this week? Have never ridden Cataract although I have bought passes several years to support them. Usually in Whistler until after the closure, but bringing the sled back this weekend as Whistler resort closed, and need to pick up parts for my snowbike. Thought I would try to get out

I have taken my snowbike to cataract. And over fording this past December.

Is there still snow? Kinda wanna scratch my last itch before the wheels go back on.

If anyone is heading out, I'm up for a Fording trip. I'm off all week.

And I am curious why you would think that?
Be a bit like banning only Ford vehicles from a highway.

The reason is that officially only vehicles registered as snowmobiles are allowed on those trails and all other motorized vehicles are banned, this is to keep quads etc off the trails. So assuming someone was there to check, and asked you for your registration, it would say you are riding a motorcycle which is not allowed.

whether anyone checks, who knows.

Yes I would think it depends on the Conservation Officer who checks you. I've been checked by some who are nice and some who are real dickheads. Until they change the laws it's just luck of the draw for riding snow bikes out there.

Is the parking lot blocked off or can you self isolate out there with the snow this week?

Went for a drive today. Etherington is gated. Cataract was partially taped and had a sign. Closed... I think you could ride out of Cataract if you got dropped off and didn't leave a vehicle there....I'll try and upload picture. Screenshot_20200329-204250.jpg

Thanks for the update. I have really used and enjoyed Cataract this winter and thank the CSC for the trail maintenance. It seems a shame to close even a few days early as there was plenty of good snow when I was last there Thursday. And very few people so zero concerns about covid. A small sacrifice I know but can't say I wasn't looking forward to at least one more ride.

Hope things don't get shut down this year . Looks like it will be good. Is there a grooming plan again? Is there going to be a call out for help with the trails?

Good day.

Yes, we at the CSC have been making lots of plans. There have been a couple of work weekends already.

They’ve put things on hold for a bit as it’s hunting season and we don’t want any conflicts with hunters out trying to enjoy the area.

I’m hoping Scott will end this thread and start a new thread next week. Most of our info is usually communicated through TeamSnap though for those who are members.

Keep in touch as there will be lots happening soon!

Snow and Mud Site Administrator and former Trails Director Sledderglen has put up a new thread for 2020-21 for Cataract Creek. Please now refer to it.
