Re: Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle riding area official section 2017/18

So I have question for anyone that would like to respond. We are wondering on how difficult the trail are out in Cataract? We as group have been riding for 5 years but our experience is flat land in central Alberta. Almost completely on frozen lake and sloughs and trails surrounding them. No snow deeper than a couple feet. We have riders from 15 to 70 that ride with us on a rag tag assortment of sleds. So the question is ...Is Cataract something we would or should ride? We are just not sure of the level of difficulty the trails will hold for us? I guess any sort of side hilling or sketchy creek crossings are 2 of our major concerns. All feed back would be much appreciated.

Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails were built with beginner to intermediate riders (given today’s mountain riding that dominates the culture around these parts) in mind. The vast majority of the trails are set up with “family” riding in mind, but do access other areas that advanced riders can be challenged. Other than a couple of uphill pitches, most of the trails traverse valley bottoms and ridge top trails. Most of the uphill/ridge climbing sections are gently sloped/laid out, with a couple of pitches that would be challenging for a beginner. The Calgary Snowmobile Club will be hosting rides this winter at Cataract, and the schedule is almost completed. Information will be on our Facebook site about the rides, as soon as they are solidified.

You’re welcome! If you would like to attend a meeting and/or join our club, we meet the first Tuesday of the month - this year now - at The Royal Canadian Legion #275, 775 40th St. SE, near/just east of Deerfoot & Memorial. Meetings start at 7 PM. October’s meeting had Lori from ZacsTracs attend and talk about new information on Avalanche studies/knowledge. November’s meeting brings S.T.A.R.S. people to our meeting, for our annual fundraising kick-off, and a refresher on/ a bit about first aid care.

And our club groomer - new to us - has had almost 1,000 hours of volunteer work on it over the summer. It is back together and rolling/moving, and now we just have a few items we want to improve on the unit before we take it out to Cataract, when we know the snow is there and needs packing.

    No hunting for me there.
BUT rancher came up to me asking if I was packing a gun. Wolves went on a hunt and found one of his cows. He had to chase a wolf off his cow about a KM from Cataract Staging area. Got a fat wolf and a broke rancher
No snow but a pile of trees blown over. 2 in staging area 1 in groomer area. Many in the bush. I could hear them crashing down
