I know snow was not in our favor this year but did anyone ever make it out there this year
I know its another riding area in the Calgary area. Snow levels are a issue and the Powderface trail and Elbow Loop are parts of the system.

Just wondering I have never been there and we were asked about it the other day. Does anyone have any history of use of this area?

Thanks

I have been there. Did the big loop and burnt a full tank of gas doing it. Was a few years ago and haven't been back. I'd love to get a KML. file of the trail to see exactly where we were. I was playing follow the leader so wasn't really sure where I was. I'm pretty sure we went around an entire mountain range doing the loop.

Thanks for the reply.
Going to go check it out next season after a snow dump. I'm afraid if we don't use it we could loose it. May even drag my grooming gear around. Lets hope for snow

Most of it was on main road, easily groomed. But coming around on the south end of the loop I think it was it was from what I remember pretty tight.

There are a few km of trail out from staging area also. You rode the Powder face trail and around Elbow Loop trail.. next year can't wait to give it a try

My family have been out there a couple times before. Nice area when there is snow. I haven't tried since the floods (lack of snow and rebuilding of the trails). I would love to join in with some people and ride there next year. It's only 45min from my house. Lets try and set up a run next year when we get the snow (positive thinking).

I don't think they replaced the bridge that was washed out near the Dawson staging area. You can cross the creek without it,but depending on snow it can be a bit dicey. The trails over the bridge are very narrow, and the last time I was there, there were quite a few trees across them. Might be that this is going to get fixed as they will supposedly be repairing and reopening Pwder Face Trail this summer.

My wife and I took a detour coming home from Banff today and drove the entire Powerface Trail from the north(Dawson PRA) to south(entrance to Little Elbow campground/end of HWY 66). All the bridges have been replaced as well as several culverts installed in creek area's. The road is currently being graded (we passed the crew). There were the usual signs at Dawson explaining that the road is "use at own risk", but there were no barricades on the north end. We drove through in a Honda Pilot but would not recommend traveling that road if it was wet, they need to add a lot of gravel. There was a barricade on the south end at hwy 66 but it was opened so we could got through.First time in there since the flood and saw a lot of damage area. We will be able to get through there next winter but we need to get Scott to talk to the "powers that be" to make sure. I also noticed on the sign at the Dawson PRS that there are other trails that are both horse and snowmobile trails that leave from there. The map shows them going into the tree's. I think I am going to have to sucker a buddy of mine to do some hiking with me to explore them before going in with snowmobiles. Just thought I would give an update..

Hmmm curious if you just got lucky that both ends were opened. I have Been down that road mtn biking the last few years. It has improved greatly.

Edit: just spoke with kananaskis office, road is open but if wet it could be difficult as previously mentioned. Also barrier on South end has be intermittent.
