101110101101, I take my family out to Cataract/Etherington all the time and they do not wear their Avy gear. All four of us have it but if on the trails, you would not require it. The nice thing about riding there with family is all the loop trails. You very seldom have to follow the same trail twice. it's a great place to take the family when there is snow. Then treat them to dinner in Okotokes and you will be da of the week. How old are your kids?

Awesome, thanks for confirming it's "safe" for the entire family. Helps the pocket book as well.

The kids are now 14 and 21.... the 21 year old step-daughter loves it... loves speed... just bought a 2015 Mustang as her first car (we've had the talk) lol. She is my favourite riding partner. Listens and learns and isn't afraid to try. "Mom" is a little more timid. Anyway... I'm stoked. I can't wait to explore the rest of the trail system.

Not yet, still working on getting the signs. Sledderglen and I are looking to order some A.S.A. signs today, and I am working with S.L.S. on signs for the sawmill activities and "new" trail naming signs - to make things clearer out there.

Like Scott said. We wll have a order in soon. Trail names and directions are on the list. Just takes $$$$$$ and time to make it all come together. Signage is a huge job out there and will take time to get it right.

I was up at Wilkinson Pass yesterday (most southeast point on the trail map, furthest point south and east on the Forestry Trunk Road - 940 - in the system) and it had 6 inches of sticky snow on average, with the bottom of the truck suspension scracping the snow on the road in places. I can not say anything about the snow conditions at Etherington and Cataract Creek parking lots, as I drove north Dutch Creek and went east down Windy Pass/Hwy 531 to Willow Creek.

I just checked the weather station information for the last two days. Easiest way to say it; the south end (Lost Creek station) got a huge dump, the north end (Highwood House) received very little. Etherington is right in the middle, so hard to say how much dropped there, without a visual. I will call the on-site S.L.S. staff tomorrow to hear how the snow is on Lost Creek Road from Cataract to their cutting site - Cummings Trail south end where it intersects with Pasque Trail - if they have not already finished logging as of last week.

Went out to both staging areas today. There is snow but anywhere from 1 to 3 inches only. Maybe better the farther you go in but don't know. Gates all locked up. Area still needs way more snow even to cover the rocks. Keep on dancing.
Had good snow on the Highwood Pass on highway 40.

Was wondering about the camping situation with Etherington Creek Campground during the winter season. Do you know if people tend to stay in the day use area or do people random camp just off trails while snowmobiling out there? Heading out there this weekend and checking out the area to possibly camp before snowmobile season.

Some people bring out their RV units and stay overnight in either Cataract Creek P.R.A. parking lot/staging area, or Etherington P.R.A. parking lot/staging area between December 1, and April 30. As this is usually a day trip area for most people, there is not usually very many people staying overnight, if any, on most weekends. Now if you are referring to being in a tent, all I can say is I have not witnessed this myself. Officially the campgrounds are closed each winter, but since the overnight stays are very infrequent, it seems the C.O. do not ticket people for doing so.....that I am aware of.

In my last 8ish years riding the area, I’ve only ever witnessed 2 groups camping in tents, and neither group were sledders. One group was Church group from England and they were hiking/camping all along the divide, actually one of them was a little banged up so we gave a few of them a lift for a couple kms, first time ever on sleds, they loved it! The other group were hikers also, but we just whizzed by them about 7:30 am while they were probably trying to sleep in their tent just off the side of the trail!

As for RV’s, every year there is always a couple nights when one group/family stays overnight and burns up the trails on their sleds. I have never seen anybody give them any issues.
