Ok folks this baffells me was out on the weekend and while playing around the campsite the quad got stuck in high range and it would not go back so i had no reverse or neautral. It would go in high but if you stopped on a hill you were f...d you had to play around with the linkage also the plastic piece that holds the shifter on broke off.So to sum it all up does anyone no why this happens or has it happened to anyone else mine is a 2010 850 with only 1600km on it all help will b appreciated thanks.

Can you shift it when the engine is not running? ...maybe it's idling to high and the belt won't disengage?

No it won.t shift back into neutral or reverse doesnt matter running or not wont engage in low range either stays in high have to play with it to get it to go into neutral that could be possible the fork is bent. Someone i talked to today was saying that there is a shifting pin inside the tranny that mite b done or clutchs but they dont think it is the selector module that shouldnt stop it from going back even tried manual on the linkage she wouldnt engage reverse or park or low. I still rode mtn side on sunday but only in high range put 40km on thankful i didnt get into a situation where i needed reverse or on a hill. But if i stopped on a decent for a minute or two it still would say high range but wouldnt go had to play with it then it would engage. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated i would like to put some miles on this unit. Thanks

Well thaks for the info guys,it wasnt much of a hill in camp pulled out of park went to high to another tree and wammo wouldnt go into reverse or low maybe that is all it is, is the park detent sure weird though probably will be booking a spot at Rapid as i think this might be a little to complicated of an issue for me to tackle. Also thanks for the link whoDeanie it was an intresting read but pretty much same issue.

Well just got my machine out of the shop, turns out it was the selector switch wich is internal because it is all one piece not just the 1 on top there is a gear like piece attchd to the top piece. The cogs were wore off this piece internally so the tranny had to come out not very much for parts as this piece is a cheap thick plastic inside. The job is very labor intensive thats what kills a guy and the fact that i did not have the correct tools to do this job so it had to go in. So just for info if this has to happen to anybody out there. I would like to thank all the people at Rapid for the cutomer service/help getting me back riding again. Technical name is Sub Assembly switch it looks to be on the schematic internal/external piece all 1 though.
