After owning the 2011 800S for 1 year now (also my first SXS) I've made a few observations and thought I'd share to see if anyone has comments if this are "in the norm" or not. The unit has higher mileage (47xxkms) but the guy I bought it off of seemed very decent and kept up-to-date on servicing and maintenance. As usual I want to have 100% faith in my equipment when I use it to venture into secluded areas since it's my ride back home!

- idle: The idle seems very low to what I'm used to on my 2-stroke sled. The SXS will kinda bumble along at 1200-1250rpm, which from doing some research seems like that's right on the money, but it still sounds like the quad almost wants to die idling that low, but never has. Normal?

Shifting: when coming to somewhat of an abrupt stop (either spinning the tires from being stuck or else a quick deceleration) and I go to switch from a Hi to Lo or R, it's like the clutch or something is still spinning even though I'm mashing on the breaks. You can hear it still spinning behind the plastic shroud. So when I go to switch gears, it'll grind because everything hasn't come to a compete stop yet internally (even though the SXS is sitting still). I had put a brand new belt on last fall before putting it away for the winter and the old belt I took off was definitely in need of replacing as it was quite thin and worn, I took the clutches off and cleaned them and put back together with the new belt which seemed to improve the throttle response. I don't think this is normal, any ideas why it would be doing this and what I could adjust? Could brakes need replacing?

Overall power: Again, I'm used to a snappy, high-reving sled with quick accel and decel. I get that this is a 1100lb piece of machinery excluding people and cargo, but when trying to climb hills it almosts like the SXS loses power before the wheels start spinning out from underneath. I've tried climbing in both Lo and Hi, same kinda experience. On flat ground it can pick up some good speed and coasts a long ways due to the weight and momentum. Is this feeling like a loss in top end performance normal when laying into the pedal under load?

I also have tires on that are starting to get pretty warn, but mainly do trail riding so don't need big aggressive knobs, so have just been burning them off for as long as i can. But I do have a new set to put on. would this help that feeling of power loss at all or make for an even quicker accel?

I hate sounding like a newbie with all this but any feedback is appreciated. Cheers guys.

Mine is defiantly down on power compared to the sled. 57 hp and 1200 lbs vs 160 hp and 450 lbs though.

But i don’t have a noticeable loss as it gets loaded up.

Maybe your clutches have issues.

I'll have to pay attention to my rpm's next time to see if they are dropping as well. What issues would that be with the clutches, of the belt was slipping it would in theory rev higher not lower.

Or maybe not up shifting smoothly.

Mines been good on belts and power is fairly even. Could always use more power but it’s pretty even. And it’s a 4 seater so heavier too.

Back when I had the clutch cover off and was replacing the belt I drove it around with the spinning clutch of death to my side just watching the range on the belt and it seemed fine but perhaps it's worth taking it all apart and taking another look...

I'm going to dive into this this weekend a little bit. If anyone has other things to look for while the clutch is apart, feel free to let me know.

Check the bearing in the primary. Make sure the fibre washers are still good on the sides.

Covers off and giving a visual inspection on the clutches as we speak.. feeling the inside of the primary there is a tiny groove worn into the side but hardly anything.
