Any advice on buying used 2011 RZR?

Which components of the axle did they change to make them cheaper and crappier?


The frame was quite clean underneath and in all the open-ended components that make up the chassis no mud jammed way in there etc. If it had been driven in mud, then they at least did a great job in cleaning it up! hah
Price is favorable for my budget I was wanting to spend, with some float in there for buying another fluid change kit & drive belt etc. Also the new 4-channel amp for peace of mind.
I think I would take it to get a compression test done, would be good information to have and know where it stands. I'll be doing an engine on my RMK this year most likely so why not make it 2 if I have to!!:) (that was a joke, I'd really rather not...)

The 800 isn't a bad motor per say it just not as nice of a motor as the 900. The 800 rattles and vibrates where the 900 is smooth! My dad has a 800 ranger and it has probably 4000 miles and still runs. But it used oil from day 1, my brother had a 800 and it alway ran nice. But he didn't think he needed snorkels cause he never planned on going in the deep water. He wrecked his motor lol.
As for price I tend not to ask nor do I care what you paid or going to pay, as long as you are happy and like the price that's all that counts!

wasn't the creeks fault or the filters fault, water went over the inlet. lol. wasn't really that funny!

Don't get but hurt I wasn't saying him wrecking his motor was funny, I was implying that his filter leaked and let water in was the funny part.

That machine will have the axles changed out. Won't need to worry about them.

I would assume so , especially if it has a lift ....
11 s & up axles don't like bracket lifts ....

You could always get oil samples done.

Check the clutches closely or see if they have been serviced

I can't see how the Rzr 800 could b a good engine both pistons go up and down at the same time

They do that so they get the fast revs like a twin, but also the big torque of a large displacement single. In theory it should work.

What makes yourself & rzrgade so sure that these axles would have already been replaced? Just because they were so poorly designed/built that by this mileage there is no possible way they would have lasted this long :confused:?

The machine does not have a lift, just slightly larger tires (29's vs stock 27's I believe)

In 11 they went to a cheap Chinese Axle , much smaller cv diameter and weaker steal where the actual axle shaft would bend . So with a lift the cv would explode because the smaller diameter greatly reduced the amount of angle that the axle could reliably handle .
So while it is possible they are stock , I would highly doubt it .
If they are stock , at 4200k they are shot most likely anyways ...
I could get a ride or two out of the stock ones ...
150k if lucky ....
About1300$ for new axles ( FYI aftermarket )

Just a lift and tires in stock axles makes them weak. Even with the miles the stick ones would be worn out. Crazy how little axles will take. Stuck in the wrong hole and you can break them half throttle easy. But that being said I have a lift and tires and still have one stock axle! Not sure how I do but it keeps on going! Lol

Well I went to go take another look at it tonight.. the rear axles seat very well and tight into the differential (no slop in/out ). Meanwhile the fronts have some play in them in/out slightly. I thought that might be since it was in 2wd but it was the same in 4wd.. also looks like one side on each the front and back are "newer" and are clearly less-corroded. Is that something I should be worried about? Also looked like the one axle (drivers) was sweating where it comes out of the differential as well.

Thoughts:confused:

This one might have 2 stock axles still but again it's hard to tell. If one broke on you, are you looking at a tow out of the woods? At least if it was the rear, the front you could drive back in 2wd I'd imagine.

Also, the comment about the 800 vs larger engines earlier in the thread... I can totally see where that comment would come from! For my use it shouldn't bother me that much but if I was really looking for power I'd def be looking 900+

It's not a bad idea to Cary a spare rear &front / or have them at the campsite.
Pay close attention to the boots ( are they all the same exactly ?)
Is the diameter of an axle thicker on one side or the other? If so , Likely
an aftermarket axle .
You can drive it with a busted axle, but it can do more damage & bind up .
Best to remove it / then drive it out.
There is no oil able to. One out of the diff ( normally ) so I would think the sweating is coming out of a CV boot . Likely it got hot and then grease seeps out a bit ...
Normal stuff / no red flag

The slop in the axles isn't a big deal. You should see mine lol, they move like crazy! Broken axle in a Polaris isn't a big deal when on the trail. The doffs don't seal around the axles it's self it seals around a hollow shaft that comes out of the diff. So you can keep going and not worry about wrecking more stuff. That is one plus of them. If you are trail riding there's a good chance you wouldn't even notice it broke. The 4x4 system puts the power to the tire with traction so it still goes good. And you can get a decent aftermarket axle for $250. I got stock replacement one from royal distributing for $190 and been in there for over a year.
