I think this has been discussed before but looking for input again from you turbo guys, just put the BD sidekick pumpgas on my 16 axys, now Jared sessions says at lower elevations from 2300 to 4000 feet for safety I should mix some av gas with my 91 just to be safe. Question is ... how much difference is there between AV gas and C111 ? Which one do you guys prefer to run ? How much you guys adding to a tank?

Thanks for any input!!!

From what I have been told C111 is essentially avgas based and VP adds additives to to ensure it makes 107 motor octane, and I tend to believe this as every gallon of C111 I bought was Avgas blue.

I personally run straight avgas and have for a couple years, I have tried C12, C14 and C111 and found little to no difference. Now some say that avgas is designed for low rpm plane engines and doesn't burn fast enough for a high rpm sled, but even if there was a small loss in power a slight change in boost would compensate, and I can handle that if I'm paying 1/3 the cost of race fuel.

As for how much to mix it depends on what octane you are looking for, it is essentially just an average of the 2 fuels octane rating based on volumes put in to get final octane. Or use a calculator like this one. http://www.wallaceracing.com/octane-mix-calc.php Personally I run straight avgas, but my engine runs stock timing so I need more octane than other kits that can retard timing either through tuning or a timing key.

This is an older thread for the pre-Axys chassis and motor but may hold some valuable information for you.

Happy Gas inc. at the GP airport. $1.67/L for 100LL
Don't get into 'mixing' just pull up to the pump run straight AV. worst thing is forgetting what mixture your running from weekend to weekend, carrying mixed fuel out to the hills. re-tuning for different mixtures. ect.
I have had Every kind of Big HP sled out in kakwa over the last 30 years.. my Turbo Pro has never seen anything but straight 100LL from the airport in 5 years.

Bottom line. its way easier just to fill up and not bother mixing for the price difference $1.35/L for prem or $1.67/L for AV. and your motor will like it way better no matter what boost you run in the hills. I run 10psi high and low on it.

Better Safe and Lazy than sorry....

Hey Gracefully... just curious I'm from gp also and just put a sidekick on my axys .. First rip of the year we went into core lodge and I mixed C111 and 91 kinda a pain in the ass but I had no issues, you say you've ran straight av for last few years no issues what so ever so this sounds like the way to go, just curious if you have always ran av gas even in higher elevations? And our low elevation 2800' here at Kakwa start of trail in, with no troubles.... Mixing is a pain in the ass so thinking this might be the answer. Thanks

Straight AV gas for my BD turbo also. 14 Pro. No issues, so much easier to deal with.

Happy Gas has no min to buy. Go in the front door, then they will let you drive to the pump. So you don't have to pack your jerry cans in. They take debit, cash or credit card. Just pre-auth for how many litres you want to buy.
