Mtn Tek fix kit: difference between 2008 and 2011+

Hey guys, just bought a 2013 Pro with 1800 miles on the original engine, (100 psi on a cheap tester) and am considering putting in a Fix Kit from Mtn Tek. They list two kits on their website though, a 2008 to present, and a 2011-2015. I'm wondering what the difference is, as the "2008-present" name would suggest that kit would fit any 800 CFI polaris. The 2011-2015 kit is about $100 more expensive though. Anyone know whats up? TIA.

I used a kit labeled 2008+ on a 2012. I believe the pistons are the same. They were wossner pistons and a spacer I purchased from mots machining in Edmonton. Give them a call they will clarify the differences if any.

Don’t hesitate to do the rebuild. My machine had 1500 miles no issues and ran great. 117 psi both sides.


But when I opened it up I found a cracked cylinder skirt ready to let go.

Good to know thanks. I'm thinking it's probably best to freshen it up now rather than waiting and wrecking the whole engine if something is going wrong.

Definitely add the fix kit. I have installed about 10 of them and it’s relatively simple. Pay attention to the ring gap it’s critical. I would bet the 11-15 has Wiseco pistons, but it’s easy to ask. Mtntk guys are great to deal with. And as noted above check that monoblock carefully for cracks. 13-15 seem to be better than the older ones. This will wake the sled up a bit too.

I had a kit on my 2008 and had great luck with it.
On a bit of a tangent, has anyone used the MCB kit or have experience with their pistons?

I looked at several kits for my pro (mtntek) being the most common but I went for the rk tek pistons. Both have great reliability. You can read about his info on the shim vs no-shim fix. I like his take on it as hes a very knowledgeable 2 stroke builder, and your not paying 700$ for 2 pistons and a shim plate

I used his pistons and head on my summit. It flat out worked! I wouldn’t hesitate to use his stuff. If you want the mtntek Kit give Chrisco on here a shout. He sells the kits and knows his stuff.
