Throttle Spin

Almost every time I ride, I hit the throttle hard enough to break the little set screw that keeps it from spinning around the bars.
If I over tighten the screw, the throttle doesn't return all the way which creates some interesting moments when you think you are stopped.
I know it stays in place a little longer if you take the throttle block apart and re-assemble but I don't want to do that very often.

I'm wondering if it's a good idea to drill a small hole into the bar to help that screw catch/stick.
Bad idea?
Any other ideas?

I personally like the throttle to move a bit. If you drill your bar and screw it into the hole you are asking for a world of trouble imo. A good way to totally destroy your throttle or break your thumb or hurt your wrist. I have it tight enough that it won't move under normal situations but will give when **** goes south.

Some guys have just wrapped electrical tape around the bar with good results. You could also pull the set screw out and maybe cut a cross into it to see if you can encourage it to bite more.

I don't like it moving at all

The solution you need is a billet throttle block. You can tighten it as tight as you like, but remember the next thing that is going to break is your throttle flipper. You really need to leave it loose enough that a solid thump will rotate it otherwise you risk breaking parts.

I took the throttle off last night. There's a groove worn in the handlebars and the set screw looks pretty worn. I'll move the throttle over and pick up a new screw.

If you want it to stay solid drill a hole into the bars and use a longer set screw to sit down in the hole. The hole does not have to go right through as it may weaken them slightly. Also the throttle blocks occasionally pop apart on the inside .. Disassemble and you will see that it unhooked inside. Reassemble and it will be good until the next big hit.

Take that set screw to the bench grinder and put a little “point” on the end.......carefully!

The screw is way too short to put a point on it.
It's an odd size too. Nothing I have matches.
I'm going to drill a divot in the bars. Not thru but enough for the screw to sit in.
