Had to get Helied out of the back side of Boulder yesterday when the jackshaft suddenly broke. Only warning was a slight vibration that slowly got worse. The bearings still look and feel new so no idea why it broke.

Has this happened to others??

Anyway looking for a jackshaft if anyone has one??

Buddy's 2012 Pro 800 broke his right at the chaincase last weekend. He said there was no sounds or vibration - just when he pressed the throttle there was no go. There was no chaincase damage and from what we could see on the hill it looked liked it broke clean off on the bearing carrier. We got lucky as it broke about 200yds from where the groomer turned around up top. We managed to tow it out 30km without him having any brakes by attaching another sled to the rear bumper an used him for brakes. He hasnt had a chance to tear it part yet to see cause and fix yet.

I read post of yours earlier in the week, my new to me pro, which has only 900km on it, however turbo'd (shouldnt matter) Just SHEARED the jack shaft off today! it's also a 2012, and It sheared off right behind the chain case, No real given reason, I was riding down the trail, stop to wait for everybody to catch up, then i get moving again, about 15 feet under light acceleration, it rev'd up and i heard a grinding noise. Yup!. I'm glad it never happened back over a few of the ridges I had to climb to get out... wow. I have a sled trip planned next weekend, Not sure what to do right now, I have a spare pro I *could* rip the shaft outta, but I'm wondering if it'll happen as well due to same year and such.... must be too light of a shaft or what?

As best I can tell from parts searches, Polaris has used the same jackshaft on chaincase sleds all through the 2011 Pro to the 2017 Axys. There is a new part number appearing for 2013 sleds but the name suggests the only change is that it comes with bearings.

Do you think the jackshafts were perhaps a bit twisted already and something we could measure to make sure it doesnt happen?

Are you suggesting Polaris engineering is some jack shaft wobble to counter engine vibrations? That would be downright ahead of its time.

LOL no I dont think theres as smart as the doo engies but just wondering if perhaps these jackshafts were out of alignment for a lot kms and then wobble caused the shear. Just wondering what exactly is causing it

I think they are just light weight. It broke where the tube is welded to the stub. A stock clutched sled may be easier on it over a hard hitting set up.

exactly where mine broke. A guy on snowest said he figured it was the machining and the way they machine them leaving the ridges doesn't allow for the flex and caused it to crack with time. So my replacement shaft, used, I sanded it down smooth and used fine emery cloth to give it that extra smooth finish, sooooo who knows but hey if that'll help then the hour of elbow grease is worth it.
