Has anyone done or heard of someone bypassing the tunnel cooler on an SKS and just using the bulkhead cooler?

If you can pull it off it should eliminate the snow and ice buildup on the sides of the tunnel. Not sure what affect it will have on cooling. Are there separate coolant connections for both?
