800 Axys really hot on the trip

Has anyone had a 800 Axys with a water pump impeller failure? Sled gains temp way to fast in the trail always looking for fresh snow. Runs fine once I’ll top. 2018 Dealer has already done a Tstat I said from the start I though it was the wp impeller.

It’s not a normal polaris gets hot in the trail it’s beyond that. I’ve had 5 Axys now so I’m pretty used to how they run on the trail and this one is not normal at all.

I would agree with you, the 800's all tend to be pretty consistent in temp on the trail that I've seen. How ever we have three 2019, 850's in our group, two of which run as cool if not better than the 800's and the third one is constantly looking for fresh snow...

The impellers are plastic and I have seen one fail, and in that particular case finding fresh snow would not cool it down.

Many t-stat failures. Mine did it. I believe it is engine harmonics and that is why they changed the design.

Tstat was changed with no different. I know the tab breaks off some I’m wondering if it made its way through the water pump impeller

I guess it is possible. Any chance you got an airlock in the cooing system when you changed the T-stat? Or maybe a piece of that T-stat is just sitting in front of a cooling jacket blocking some flow?

The dealer did it but I checked and no air in the system. The piece that breaks off is just a small. Ring so it wouldn’t block anything that’s why I’m guessing water pump damage

What is too hot? Mine always 95-100F in snow, and when loose snow on trail. But if its icy, like Blue Lake was yesterday in the mid part of trail. She heats up to like 150-160F with scratchers. Cools down soon as the fluffy snow is found.

^^^ mine runs 125F up in the snow on the trail i'm always 150-160F also ( its a 16 Axyx 800 )

My 16 ran hot even with a snow flap. My 18 with the updated thermostat runs cold, almost too cold at times and I haven’t run a snow flap in two seasons.

If you have a 16-17 the thermostat is most likely the culprit.

If it’s an 18 I have yet to see one fail but it’s possible a piece did get the impeller stuck.

I see you checked for airlock. Did you raised the sled up overnight with the cap off?

Not Icey normal groomed conditions even loose it just constantly climbs. Way faster then normal. Scratchers down it it 150+ when other Axys are 110-120

I had 4 kinda 5 Axys last winter and this is the only one that’s ever done this.
I have over 13000 miles on Axys I’m pretty used to how they run and this sled gets hot fast. I had one with broken screechers last year that ran way cooler on the same days.

It’s not a snow flap issue and sled has a power claw on it now that fires snow like a savage on the trail.

2016/17 run 120 18/19 are about 105 this sled goes from 105-170 fast I’m saying a short trail like frisbee your off trail 4-5 times in snow conditions my other Axys I wouldn’t have to get off at all

Axys have a bleed screw that has always worked for me
