Scratchers on 174 Axys

Where on the rail is everybody mounting their stock scratchers?

The other day I went to install a set of Ice Storm scratchers off my old Pro and found that there was nowhere to mount the holder using the two holes from the stock ones. I don’t necessarily want to try tucking them inside the rail (like the stock ones) but also don’t see a area that works particularly well; even if I want to start drilling my own holes.

I also went and and looked at the Doo scratchers but found the same problem- unless I want to mount somewhere near the back of the rail which defeats the point.

Curious to hear what everyone else did. Will try take and post some photos later.

HAHA, funny you bring this up. I too went to switch out the stock scratchers with the same reversible ICESTORM scratchers. I thought the spacing from the mount to the hangers would be the same distance as the 163 I used to own. So I go and drill the rail hole larger to put the hanger on and go and mount the new scratcher. Damn if they don't reach. Ended up running the longer stock scratchers and drilled a hole in the middle of the hanger so the scratcher tip could be inserted to rest as the stockers were still too short to hang over the hanger. It looks like I should have move the hanger forward and mounted the ICESTORMS in the stock mounting holes.

Even in the stock mounting holes they still don’t reach. Will be looking more closely tomorrow. Surprised nobody else has brought this up as the stock ones hardly last a season if your lucky!!

you will find that the holders will break off, or get ripped off, that’s my experience anyway... I just tucked them over the rails, will peel powder coating, but that’s life. As some real solid advise, I found that they don’t work great in reverse...lol. Stockers went back on, good idea but I found they just weren’t better than the oem.

I sold my 2016 RMK with 3600km on it, still rocking factory scratchers.

A few years back I tried those reversible ones. The hangers would break every couple rides. So now they sit on a shelf. Plain wire style for me from now on.

I use the BRP scratchers on all my Polaris A’s does the rest of our group they work awesome for us

I also liked the cable style ones. Had them on my last sled. Never really put them up. But they grab real hard on a deck ramp if you forget.

Super easy like 10 minutes for both sides. Drill 1 hole and use one existing. And an existing for the little plastic holder

I went to try the ice storms in the stock holes tonight without holders and they wouldn’t stay behind the rail. They would simply skip off. Here’s a couple pics.

May need to give the doo ones some serious consideration. Surely I can’t be the only one with this problem?

I’ve eaten through several pairs of the stock Polaris ones. They are garbage. Especially end of feb, intoMarch or April when you have a freeze thaw situation going and th trail turns into a ice block. That’s why I like the ice storms as they put down a ton of pressure but can’t seem to mount them here.

I always feel ripped off when I have to buy a new set of stupid black wire.
I wish some one would just sell them in singles
like just left or rights if u wanted ,instead of crossing ur fingers that the
next one to break is the spare u got

I agree. It’s as satisfying as new tires on a vehicle aka not at all. The ice storms will sell one offs just a FYI.

So from the angle of the photo it looks like you could drill out the hanger with a hole big enough to run the swing arm bolt through and have them hang there?

I will look at that on mine to see if that is the best solution. If that doesn't work I will be drilling new hanger holes in the rails. The hangers do work well when they are positioned down low so the rail actually support them from underneath. It is usually only Ski-doo guys who complain about bending them. I wonder if it has anything to do with T-motion or the flex edge track getting involved?/

imnot quite sure what you mean. The arms aren’t long enough to go past the big gaping space in the top part of the rails. Are you suggesting putting the mount in the smaller holes on the lower level? Seems like the big hook on the end that close to the track is a recipe for disaster. I truly don’t know tho.

I have had ice storms break at the bend, been warranty every time

But have 12000 km on two sleds and never broke a hang up mount

Ive never broken one either. Just can’t find a place to mount the hang up mount!!!

No, put the hangers forward and up and held in place by the long bolt that goes through your lower swing arm tube.

There was one bad year when the manufacturer used a slightly different manufacturing technique that resulted in sharper bends in the spring. That year we warrantied several sets but before and now after that year they have been really good. I usually get at least 2 seasons out of a set and stockers only 1 season,
