While trying to patiently wait for my snowcheck shipment email, I have been googling the PIDD that I ordered. I gather that in The past it was necessary to install a battery to make it work? Is my 850 going to come with the full e start battery setup?

I've got the pull start with the PIDD in my 17, no battery or anything, as said before it shuts off when the sled is turned off, which sucks because it re-boots every time you go into reverse of turn the sled off. I wish there was a way to keep it powered up when going to reverse, like just a capacitor or something.

There is a wiring harness and small battery you can add to keep it live. Can’t remember where I saw it. Just google and I’m sure you will find it.

^ Yes. Adding a battery pack to my 18 this year.

Gauge power input harness is inside the left cover.

I’m gonna use a Milwaukee tools battery pack from a heated coat.

Sometimes it takes a bit for it to connect to the satiate. Get dead spots in your maps or need to sit and wait. Also would like to veiw and edit maps/waypoints without the motor running.

Thanks guys, that is exactly the info I was looking for! I'll want some sort of small battery setup like this, helps me plan it out while I wait for my sled to be delivered.

I have been doing some searching to see setups of rechargable li/ion batteries to keep the pidd powered up, and I'm not finding much. I'm mostly seeing small acid battery setups tied to the charging system, which is not the way I want to go.
I did see, as mentioned above a plug for gauge test power is in the harness. Does anyone know the details on using this as the battery power supply? Wondering what kind of amperage draw I'll need to plan for.
I only want occasional use out of this, the odd time when I'll want to edit waypoints and tracks on a break, or those times when I won't want to risk losing sat reception on a quick reverse or dig-out. I plan to install a switch so I can turn on the battery supply at will, but normally leave it off. Any advice or links will be appreciated!

There are some compact and affordable 12dc lithium setups, I wonder if something like 3amps is enough though

I gotta Finnish cleaning up my garage before I play with mine.

Won’t need much for amps. Just powering the gauge when sled isn’t running. Just need something that will last in the cold.

Also gonna check the test port with a meter to see if it will back feed as a charger. But my plan is to use my Milwaukee tool battery pack, wire into my dash bag. Also gonna wire a dc jack/USB for phone or gps charging, and a heating pad to keep them warmer.

Gonna miss my holeshot windshield bag that I had on my pro!

I think it would be nice to go off a capacitor, wired into the key so it’s on when the key is on. And if you forgot it on overnight, it wouldn’t matter, it would discharge the capacitor and shut off. Come to think of it, there are already capacitors on the sled, i.e. fuel pump. Could it be set up to run off those? Does anybody have a service manual with wiring diagram? I tried to get the electronic one, but it doesn’t exist yet.

I have one from a 17. I can share.

I tested the gauge power test port with the sled running yesterday. Was outputting 14 volts. That will charge a battery or capacitor when running, then should power up the gauge when not running.
