Have a 2016 Axys 800 163. I have an SLP muffler on a stock pipe, and a Kurts Gear down kit on it. Normally run 10-64's around Revy/Golden and pull 8150 +/- 150 all the time. Lately have noticed that after a good pull where your WFO for a bigger hill or just playing around with the flipper taped to the bars for a bit (30 - 40 seconds maybe) the rpms dont come down as fast as normal. Never thrown a code or anything and always use 91 fuel. Next trip out I will try switching to ethanol mode, that should richen it up a bit correct?

Someone with more Polaris know how than me can answer best but I believe the ethanol switch is there to retard ignition so as to prevent detonation or engine knock. I am unsure if it also richens up the fuel/air mixture?

Yes if you put in Ethanol mode it will retard the timing and richen the fuel.

Im not sure about timing, but, it does add 5% more fuel across the RPM curve. Biggest thing is to make sure your running fuel with no ethanol. Shell 91 has no ethanol. If you run esso, or metro 91 there is up to 10% ethanol in the fuel.

It used to be 91 octane from Shell, Esso, and Co op were the 3 stations in alberta that were ethanol free in their premium blends.....unless they have changed recently. Petrocan 94 may contain ethanol if you check out their website.

Ya I will go to some of the fuel manufacturers and look up some specs. I try and always fill up at Shell but there has been a time or two where Petro Can or Esso was used.

Can you explain a little more when you say rpms don't come down as fast? Do you mean it doesn't go down to idle rpm as fast?

Yes, it doesnt come down to an idle as fast as it normally does, almost like the throttle is slowly shutting. it only happens when your really working the sled.

My pro has done that since new, I doubt it has to do with fuel quality, if anything I think it's because the idle may be set slightly to high on the throttle bodies making it slow to idle down. And when mine is hot the engine seems to fire everytime instead of getting the typical 2stroke misfire which would also lead to a higher idle rpm.

All the Cats I've owned have done this, as does my Axys. Wouldn't be worried about it.

Honestly I'm not good enough with IC engines to even tell. Sometimes my Polaris 800s start up at a very low idle, gauge doesn't come on, and buddies tell me it is running on one cylinder, I would have never guessed that though.

I will say though, I think the etec engines are pretty impressive at idle.

Ethenol reqires a richer fuel map the ethonal mode adds fuel. I can't see it pulling timing ethonal fuels have more resistance to knock then 91 that's why automotive turbo guys love e85 make way more power. 2 strokes do not missfire at ide if they were to miss they would load up or foul plugs possible backfire. If an engine is missing it's not running property. Depending on how long it takes to idle down this may be normal or you may have a slight vacuum leak, a throttle body hanging up, thtottle cable to tight, or snow holing it out. My Axys is bad if I'm riding deep snow i get build up in the throttle block and it is to the point i have cruz controle sometimes..

Are you sure there is no snow stuck under the flipper. We saw this the other day when it was deep. Also I used 20% more fuel compared to buddies machine when in ethanol mode. Previous day we were within pennies at the pump.

Is that 5% more than stock across the whole rpm curve? If the fuel contains ethanol (Petro/Husky 94 with ~10% ethanol) the sled must be ran in the ethanol mode so that it wont run lean?
