I have an 01 Scrambler 500 4x4. Been running fine. I started it and it died about a block down the road. Did the same thing again. Now it wont start at all cranks but wont turn over seems likes it backfiring through carb. Also, I did some welding on the back rack would that have an effect on the CDI or anything. Thanks

probaly messed up somthing electical stator or cdi. are you getting spark all the time? It could also be anything from bad or coroded wire in ignition, kill switch, plug wire or faulty plug. but it definitly sound electrical.

Its rare for a cdi to just up and quit. i would pull your mag cover off and take a look inside. i had lots of problem with my old sportsman due to water in there also make sure the magnetic pick up on the outside of the flywheel isnt covered with metal filing from the starter bedix. and you may want pick up a climer manual they have all the tests in there exept for the cdi cause you cant really test it.

Check the flywheel key while you are in the mag cover.

The stator is a common problem with the 500 engine. If you find the stator to be the problem, google ricky stator before you have a heart attack when you find out the OEM price.

If you need any info on scramblers go to "gen3usa.com" they have more scrammy info than you will find anywhere on the web.
