Thanks for the info bigfoot i will try pulling jets tommorrow and installing the 185s .I sure hope this is what my problem is as it smokes way to much at idle and when you first gun it it seems a little dead and leaves a nice thick cloud of smoke as others i have rode with say that when they follow me they can smell raw fuel;)Also forgot to mention that it has a psi can and factory altitude compensators ,dont know if this would make any difference

You may have answered your own question..... Altitude compensator could very well be the culprit. Check oil pump setting also.

i wouldn't even bother with the vari flow. 9 times out of ten it hardly works anyways. Does it have a stock pipe? if not remember an after market pipe will lean things out.

On the 2000/600/rmk the jetting was updated to this.

keihin pwk 39 with ACCS is as follows.
main jet (175)
pilot jet (48)
jet needle (r1368j-3)
needle jet (2.9x4.6x1.5mm fixed)
cutaway (6.0 notched)
air screw (1.0).
For( 0-12000ft) the jetting is said to be (175 main)-(#3 CLIP POS.). Also, check your (choke) plunger seats. If these are cracked or damaged it will cause the same problems you are having. GOOD LUCK

Powder pusher was asking about a 1999 600 in his original post and thread I believe.

Yes I know, it problably was updated to the new settings for the 2000 model year, He should go to his dealer to make sure. PS, I hope his dealer knows what they are doing, I have seen so many shoty outfits.

I was just looking as the sled does not have mikunni carbs it does have the keihin carb system,as i had mentioned earlier it has the stock exhaust pipe but it has a aftermarket psi can on it ,maybe i will try putting the stock can on it as i have it , thanks to everyone for the info as it will hopefully save me the big bill at the local sled shop if it works ,if not i guess i will have to take it to the shop and get it repaired as i am trying to sell it to buy a bigger sled for next season , Does any one figure 3000-3500 is a fair price on a 99 600 with under 2400 miles on it

Yes, that 2000 model still has the keihn pwk 39mm carbs. I tunned a 99 not long ago and it still smoked bad when it was cold but it didn't bog. my friends 700 does the same thing and we tunned it well. a 2001 xc 700 with 40mm miks. does not do it at all and runs perfect. To bad we couldn't get together, i believe i could fix it for you. PS> If your sled is clean it should fetch you 3000-3500 at the early season, now might be harder.:(

The vari-flow is a great invention, if installed properly and rest of machine is set-up right. And unless you have an egt, you have to know your machine. Been running one since they came out, same one on 3 diff sleds, no probs at all. Run in Saskatoon at +15 and Radium/ Golden to 9800 ft just turning the dial, never ever changed the insert. Never blown anything up in 6 years.

Hi Mike, any tricks I should know about when doing the install...I'm planning on putting one on tonight?
Your input would really be appreciated.
Thx

Sorry, just checked in and saw your reply. Jet for lowest alt and lowest temp (mines jetted for 2000 ft and -30, needles also set accord to fact chart). Follow inst exactly. Install dial on lhs dash so you can adj w/o stopping sled. Make sure hose goes into proper compartment in airbox with t- fitting (or just wherever with pods). Route lines so none are pinched or can do so when handlebars turned!! ALL lines must be correct lenght as per instr. CAREFULLY drill hole in carb cap (we always use mag side) so fitting doesnt interfere with slide etc. Didnt jb/ seal mine in cap but could do so. Will go home tonite and check which insert I have and let you know tomorrow am. Should run egt w/ this but I didnt have one until this year. Otherwise when sled is slobbering/ hard to start hot/ not really pulling rpm it should then click 1 AT A TIME (about 5-10 sec reaction time). If you have squeeked it, its because of install/ user as all system does is adj float level. Any questions call me (mike) or Melvin at 985-2747

I'm using the brass insert, and make sure if you're using the airbox to loop the 2 vent fittings to carb from airbox together, as they arent used anymore. Good luck and have fun!!!
