Been reading the threads on some cans getting louder after they "Break in" I have a MBRP can on my 09 D8 and it sounded GREAT when new and now at 1200 miles it is making my ears bleed. I now have read that the MBRP is glass packed and "Burns out" after a period of time, like 1000 Miles which makes sence now,, brilliant piece of engeneering, one season on it and its too loud to use any more. From what i am reading the SLP does not break in the same, and i did find mine a little quiet, does that mean it is not Glass Packed ? I have heard the "Thing" is like running a straight pipe.

I like a nice sound, stock is too quiet and a broken in MBRP pisses everyone off that i ride with.
How many other brands are Glass packed, I now want to stay away from them.

I would like to hear from the guys with over 1000 miles on their Cans to comment here.

Only one i have tried that never changed was the thing. Wasnt as loud as they used to be. Using one of specialty sleds now but not enough miles on it to say if it changes but all that i have tried other than the thing got louder.

Yes, SLP shoundn't get much louder, as they use mechanical baffles instead of a straight through glasspack. BMP claims to be baffled as well, on their quiet muffler, not sure about skinz

Interesting topic, cans usually just wear out, mostly due to the packing material used and in the construction of the product. Some companies have even opted to produce a product with baffles that do not require repacking. Internal combustion engines require a mathematical formula relating to back pressure to maintain optimum performance, this is true for both 2 and 4 stroke technology. What I find absolutely interesting is how the aftermarket has created a sled muffler that is not re-packable. The motorcycle world, both on-road and off has had aftermarket CANS for years. The mufflers in some cases have shown to improve performance and those that use fiberglass packing technolgy will provide a systematic timeline to re-pack the muffler for optimum performance....Hmmmm maybe we are on to something here, a rebuildable sled muffler.......

If your on a budget my buddy packed his dirtbike pipe with fibreglass house insulation once and it actually sounded great. A dirtbike doesnt put out as much heat as a sled but you might still be ok. Just an idea if you want to try something new.
