That is hard to believe for me personaly cause I have four model 700 remingtons and have never had a problem with any of them you might be thinking the model 710 wich is the model 770 now they are a pos in my opinion very cheap and you definetly get what you pay for with them no matter what you choose if your using it for one week a year of hunting you shouldn't be disapointed just stay away from the bottom models such as the Stevens and model 770 and such

yes the 770 is the worst made gun ive ever put my hands on but i was also talkin about the 700's, now im not talkin all 700's the ones of the past seem to have alot less problems. The problem these days with them are that remington mass produces so much and for what ive seen their QA/QC blows.

I was at Wholesale on wednesday and they had a Tikka. It was nice and I was tempted but I am still going to look around .

tikka is an awesome rifle for the price if its not outta ur range, cant go wrong with it...guaranteed 3 shot group under an inch or inch and a half at a hundred yards, cant remember which one it is, its real light, has a great barrel and trigger and the detachable mag is nice to have. Only downfall imo is the synthetic stock is kinda plasticy but the wood and laminate ones are nice

I have a rem 770 in a 30-06. It definatly isnt the best made gun out there but in 2 years and 4 boxes of shells thru it I havent seen a problem yet! I made sure to tighten the scope mounts and stuff. it has been bounced around a bit out west elk hunting and in some pretty bad weather and I have had no problems with the action. When it was brand new the bolt was pretty sticky and would hang up a bit but I worked it with some WD 40 and i seems to work fine now!. This fall will be the 3rd fall with the gun and for 350.00 if it makes it thru again I will have gotten my money's worth!
I also have a savage in the .17 caland absolutly love it!! Accutrigger thumbhole laminate stock and heavy stailess barrel is un beatable for a varmint gun!

I checked out a few places regarding the Savage and they alll ( for the most part ) had good things to say about savage. The problem I having is to find a Left Hand bolt. I am think that I am going to take a right hand bolt gun and shoot from my left shoulder. Provided that the gun does not have a cheak piece on the stock - I will just have to cycle the bolt with my right hand ( switch hands to cycle the bolt - slight hassle but I can manage) . It there anything else that I am missing with this train of thought ? I am a right hand person but my dominate eye is my left eye.

Zar,

I won Canadian shooting championships in 1992 shooting non-dominant eye. If you wanted to shoot a bow I would be pointing you to shoot dominant eye only..if you were shooting a handgun or rifle you can train your eye and maintain your strong stance. It would be a big mistake to mess with your bodys natural instincts to work the bolt, kneel, stance, etc. You need to spend a day on the bench and see how well you can do this strong hand first. I think you will find that is the way to go...secondly there are lots of right hand rifles...you pay more for most left hand calibres and limit the selling...I own lockers full of left hand rifles and shotguns because I am left handed...but left eye dominant...I would be glad to take you to the range if you were closer...

I finally got the Savage 7 MM Mag ( righ hand bolt) from BassPro in Balzac. I was very happy it was the gun I wanted for $470 including scope. I not sure about the scope - it is a Bushnell but the guy said it is worth about $100. I will thnk about changing out the scope. I will try it first to see how it scope works. Thanks for all the great advice.

Cheers

i was sceptical on my scope as well. big gun cheap scope. its a simmons but i have 3 boxes of shells through it now and was still accurate last fall. so happy with it so far. you will like the gun best bang for the buck out there. no pun intended. lol happy hunting season.
