Looking to add air conditioning to my house. Lots of different brands and installers out there including Costco, Home Depot, and Direct Energy. Looking for recommendations, reviews, any bits of advice.

My house is an 1850 sq. ft. walkout bungalow built in 2006. Main floor is heated by forced air, lower level is heated by infloor (although there are vents in the ceiling as well).

Thanks for your help in advance.

First off you will love it...we installed a new Lennox furnace and A/C in 2000 and will never go without it again...never really noticed the $$ during the hot months. We had Rob's Pluming and Heating do the install...they are now Rob's Albertan I think. My Mom had Sears do her home...no issues...and a friend had Weathermakers, again no issues. Your best bet is to line up a bunch for quotes and opinions.

Now...that being said the system I described above has been recovered from our home as we are rebuilding. It a Lennox 2.5 Ton fully charged compressor and a 17X20 inch condenser. I was, and still am thinking of reinstalling it in the temporary home we are in but would consider selling it. This road would reduce your costs drastically...it has never had issues and has been covered every winter. I had a quote for a reinstall of $2400...not too sure what the unit is worth.

I have york 2.5tonne running on my upstairs furnace to take the edge off on thoose hot nights,,, I love it central air is great.

I got 3 quotes on a few different units but all the same size,, it seems competitive if you go for price point,, but you will pay more money for more effieciantcy,, so you would pay extra now to save on electricity bill.

mine was $2650 installed. for a mid range model

quotes were around $3G to 3500 for economy and $4600 for the lux.
