Wood Pelet Stoves

Has anyone else got one of these???I had a wood stove in my old house and loved it but there alot of work....These are alot less hassle .So i put one in my basement and it is awesome 40,000 B.T.U. It heats the majority of the house (about2100square feet)and each bag is 40lbs.and costs 6 bucks.My question is if anyone has one of these and what is your opinion on them ??

when i was doing reno's on my house we were looking at our options. Nothing beats true wood heat especially for the cost of wood, however switching from a natural gas furnace over to wood proved to be pricy, actually every option we looked at turned out to be costly. A good pellet stove was running about 5k installed same with the wood stove. Changing out the furnace to a high efficiency model was also the same. seemed like no matter the option the cost was 5k plus or minus depending on make and model. Ended up going with the new furnace and installing a heat circ pump on top. in the end work was less and its easier for the wife to do, haha. If i didnt live in town the outdoor wood boiler is the only way to go, my parents have a pellet stove and found during the deep cold it just doesnt put out enough heat.

I had a shop heater, we moved recently and the new owners wanted the heater. We also have a Bar-B-que that uses pellets instead of gas or bricketts. fairly cheap heat. This is a canadian company, they manufacture in edmonton, this is the brand that i have.

I would not have a pellet stove cannot put out the heat as the a true wood stove, ask my neighbor at the lake spent $4,700.00 installed I got a wood stove the same time but did it myself complete for $1,850.00. I could not believe spend that kind of cash and it cant keep his cabin warm, for the money he spent he got ------

I use pellets as my main source of heat and find it cheaper than natural gas and since its wood heat it feels warmer also. I have two gas furnaces one for the trailer and one in a big addition. The pellet stove in the addition heats the whole place, only in the dead of winter does the other furnaces kick in. I pay 5.00$ a bag cause i buy it by the pallet and a bag lasts about 30 hours at full output.

Well the wood stoves are alot hotter fire for sure.But To put a wood burner in this house i would need 26' just in chimmney pipe and it has to have a chase around it ,,it is just to much work.if i was in the country or acerage in a bungalo not a two story it would be a lot better.This thing ended up costing me $ 2,800.I installed it myself .It is an Enviro made in B.C..the quotes at near $5000 ,,,wow they must have had a pure gold plated one..

The guy across the street has one and loved it till The power went off for 14 hours one day in minus 20 don't work at all without power. I guess it gave him an excuss to come to my house and drink beer by the wood stove. But I can see wood being a huge hassle in the city though you either pay for it or drive stupid distances to get it and the city folks complain about the smell
I guess. Also that much Chimeny would be a f#$%ing fortune

I love mine. Heats my whole house with no problem. I've never turned it up past medium. Runs on low most of the winter. Cheaper than what my propane furnace was costing to heat and feels warmer. Nope, they don't work when the power goes out, but neither does my furnace. I had the same decision about chimney to make. Barn style roofline and a long distance out the top. Pellet stove route was way cheaper install, and way less hassle to feed it. Don't have to open the windows when it gets too hot inside from a normal woodstove any more either. Thermostat just shuts it off!

as planning on putting a pellet stove in our new house.
Got talked out of it.
Uses 3 electric motors needs power to run it.
Cost of pellets.
Weekly cleaning.

I will put a wood stove in the basement.

You will have to clean allot more with the wood stove!!! Like allot! Pellet ash is a very fine dense ash where regular wood is course and bulky. As far as power its only 5-8 amps so the smallest of generator or inverter will run it. Even the inverter that you plug into a cigarette lighter is enough!!

I really like it ..i haven't had it when it is minus 30 ,,but i spend alot of time in the basement and it is chilly there.Works great i think/

Have nat gas as the "primary" source and a nice quality Waterford wood stove here at home, works great if you're home to keep the stove going/emptying the ash pan. Wood is really nice heat and wood can be "free" if you do some work. Different story out at the cabin, a wood stove would be a pain, chopping wood and lots of cleaning/stoking etc, there was a pellet stove there when it was bought, and it is perfect for the time when we're there, stays running all day on one bag with little ash and keeps the place warm with no effort, just what I'm looking for when I'm out sledding.. buy pellts on a pallet and they almost halfprice..

im building a pellet mill on our acreage this summer. will be making premium wood pellets for the fall time. prices are high right now because of lack of suppliers. all the large suppliers ship to europe because the market is huge there. pm me if your interested in buying pellets, i need future interest to go with my plan. i will probably be selling them around $3-4 a bag.

Had a pellot stove in my old house 2100 square ft 11/2 story. No natural gas at all just pellot stove. Best pellots were from Pinicale pellots from Quesenel BC. These were best because of their high wood content of Fir. Burns real hot. Local suppliers used more spruce/pine. Not as good had to really watch the moisture content or they would not burn right and coke up in the burnpot.
I bought bulk 2 tons a year. Trucked out from Quesenel BC.
I cleaned mine in the morning and before I went to bed took 5 min no problem
Kept our house nice and warm even when -30 outside. Oh ya we had 14 inch thick walls in our house. Very well insulated.

Well I had a choice....had a wood burner, tired of hauling and splitting wood, bought a Harmon PC45. This stove will burn all bio fuels...wheat,oats,barley,canola and also wood pellets. Right now burning oat's hopper will last 2 day's and ashes are auto dumped into an ash can. Venting is just like your dryer vent. This stove also has a room temp sensor and stove will idle down and fans will shut down. As far as power outages, we have then, but it is hooked up to a 12 car battery and a 300 watt inverter as a backup so no heat loss at all.

I too got 2 PC45 harman stoves. I burn bin run grain in mine. I actually burned screenings all winter with no issues. Cost me 300 bucks with power to heat my place this winter.

I'm burning oats right now....little more fly ash and a bit less heat, wheat was hotter, but then you had these clinker issues building up on the stir stick. I would buy another stove in a heart beat. Our stove was fired up in late Oct and will run till mid April. Roughly burned 150 bushels (150 X 1.50 Bus.) $225 to heat a 2000 sq ft house is pretty cheap. Furnace rarely kicks in, only on those -40C nights and then runs only for a short time.

YA same here. I think we burned about 200 bus here but i got my screenings for free from a neighbour. Its just junk, wild oats,canola,barley,etc. It sure works good. I was just talking with my Woman and she said the one isnt working right now so ill have to tinker with it when i get home. Im almost temped to install another one in my shop cause they are efficent and they do burn the stuff that aint really marketable.
