So with the UCP announcing today that they want to go digital when it comes to pink slips (vehicle insurance ) it got me thinking. What are the legalities about handing your phone over to a LEO to provide proof of insurance ? Once you’ve handed your phone over to them you’ve basically given them permission to go through your phone have you not?

with digital tech comes scanners....I doubt the cops will take your phone, they will scan your tag or the app on your phone and have immediate results if you are in good standing or not,

Got pulled over for speeding 2 years ago. Didn’t have a current pink slip in the wife’s car at the time called my brother in law and asked him to email me a copy. (BIL is my broker). RC had no problem accepting a digital copy back then. I did hand over my unlocked phone to him though. Didn’t have anything to worry about on the phone at all. If it happens again I think I’ll take a screen shot of the pink slip and set it as my lock screen before I hand the phone over next time.

The last three times I got pulled over in sk. I never had my registration told them I don’t have a current registration but could get one on the sgi website and they told me not to bother. I’m pretty sure the plate reading tech has come along ways and they already know who vehicle is registered to and if it’s active or not before they even get out of the cruiser.

i have no issue with it. Will save me thousands in failure to provide tickets since i cant seem to keep my paperwork in order. Im way more terrified of my girlfriend going through my phone than a police officer

on another note...i didnt read much about it but is it going to be that you can show it digitally or will they be able to pull proof of insurance on their system by your drivers licence? to me that makes more sense

as it is now they accept photocopied insurance, just make copies, and keep one in coat or on vehicle, registration is where they got you, as you need an original copy. by handing your phone to the police they can open it up and take a looksee. and there is nothing you can do, not a rabbit hole anyone wants to go down.

Yes they will for regy, but not insurance as it's separate
Unlike icbc where they can see both right away
