Went back to Hunter's Range for another exploratory trip today. 30 cm of fresh on top of a great base. Visibility was flat and in the meadows it was a pita to pick out the creeks. Lots of untracked and found some places where there wasn't a track this year. What a beauty of a place. Ashton was groomed last night and that is the best trail we've been on this season.................reminded me of the "baby-butt smooth" grooming in Fernie!
The stuck was a beauty. Dropped into a creek with laid down trees under the 6' of snow. The extrication wasn't that bad. A little shovelling and a strap on the lower ski for a little ski pull and that 3" track and the 850 did it's job!! A couple ol' folks can sure get into trouble deep in the trees. Good thing I am creative and have a few tricks up my sleeve for those frustrating times. The tree riding is awesome with a little looking through the trees one can go a long way without any tracks.

Just need a good GPS and away one goes. We tend to ride during the week but when a sunny weekend comes up I'll give you a call.

U have to get back down the kingfisher side and take the wap forestry road towards three valley or over blue and down the backside to the wap rd

So which area would you prefer to call your primary area Sicamous or Hunter? Reason I ask is I have only been there twice and can't remember how it compared and buddies trying to talk me into joining Hunters next year due to growing frustration over access issues at Owl, Quest and Blue. This isn't the first winter we have had these issues. Some of it is outside the clubs control for sure and I like the convenience but am tired of the gravel. lol Eliminating the break on a spousal pass when all other areas do it rubbed him the wrong way (me too) so he is really twisting our arm to become members there

Well Bert, I really dislike the gravel, the whooped up trail, and the crowds when we go further east. Not that one would see many out in the hills but the parking is a real concern. I really like the Senior rate at $70 and if one is a member elsewhere, there is an Associate membership for $50 (that takes in the discount for the BCSF portion that we already paid in Siccy.
I can see where Hunter's may be our go-to area in the future. We have found lots of meadows and mellow trees so far and have only explored for the two days this year. It was nice to be able to pop off the trail halfway up to the cabin and ride meadows and trees the rest of the way. Some of the meadows would be tracked out, others untouched, and it seems not a lot of peeps ride into the trees. They just skirt the edges of the meadow so we always found fresh untracked in the trees. Go up to the cabin and ride the trees on the other side of the groomed trail back to the halfway point on the way home.
I am tracking the weather and we will ride early in the coming week. Wanna go for a tour?

I do. Next week is bad for me. Finishing off an engine install in daughters sled Monday and gotta go to Calgary Tuesday for doctor stuff and back on Thursday. Then I won't be going any where tell sled season is done. Lets doo it.
I hear you on the parking issues. The getting rid of the secondary pass still burns me.

Mid week ride..................few people, trail still in great shape, and freshies! Couldn't ask for better! Stayed off the trail for the most part and explored. The snow is great with 3-6" of fresh and lots of wind blown pillows/drifts. HRSA doing a great job. With the warmer temps, the upper parking lot is getting a little icy but still no dirt/gravel on the trail. Found another cool pub on the way home.

Surprise, surprise..............we rode Tuesday and it was good (see pictures above), Wednesday we were busy and didn't ride, Thursday was a shovelling day in Salmon Arm (15 cm on the driveway), so today was the day. 40 cm of fresh minimum and in some of the wind blown areas there was 60 cm. Weatherman sure screwed this one up. A beauty of a day. Untracked pretty much all day other than the occasional rider sneaking into where we were. A freshly groomed trail with 40 cm..................was heaven!! Thank you Hunter's Range Snowmobile Assoc.
A little heating issue on the lower elevation of the trail but I am going to raise the LinQ attachments and see if it will make a difference. There is easily 10-15 degrees between Bev's sled and mine one the lower elevation trail and she is without a bag on the tunnel.

Still lots of untracked on Saturday. It appears that people don't like the trees. At my age, I'm not into jumps, drop-ins, and bow ties. Grooming was top notch again and the sun was shining.................what more could a guy ask for??

Doug... Have you done the trail from hunter's cabin to gordon henry cabin yet? Or checked out the old trappers hut west of the hunter's cabin? Or taken the back way into owlshead from swansea point, behind the firestation?

This is the way most of the local old timers I know like to get in to hunters. It’s a decent ride if they haven’t plowed too far for logging.

we've sledded right from the bottom many times and ran gravel for several kms... Usually get up to one of the t intersections and go from there

They groom to the Gordon Sydney cabin now and yes we have been up there. Looking at finding the way over to Owls from Gordon Sydney. Might need some one to tag along and show us the way. Haven't gone to the old trappers cabin and Swansea Point is out of our way. Love the Brash trail and all the play areas along the way and the grooming is excellent. As a HRSA member, it is sweet to use the groomed up and down.
