Kakwa riding conditions 2014 / 2015

We had 12 “ of snow in the parking lot last weekend , which made it hard to get around , we will try to make a couple of passes with the groomer , but it is VERY hard on the groomer with all the large rock sticking out , and with the new groomer it will be impossible as the teeth on the blade are very aggressive, we are working with the oil company to get it done but they have priorities to their customer before us , we will keep you in the loop on how we make we make out wi...th them . One of the other options we purchase/rent a 4 wheel drive tractor with a blade to do the parking lots and roads but again is another cost and something else to look after and we only have so much time , or if someone has a piece of equipment we could hire we would also look at that , plus I’m sure that person could get extra work plowing out camp access , as if we do it we will only do the main road and not access , so be prepared to do a little shoveling . BRING CHAINS !! as the people I seen on Sunday having problems were not prepared. People have asked if they could pay us to plow out their area , but we are not going to get into that as it takes away from the time grooming which is our commitment and priority .
If anyone has other ideas please pass them on to us , as we are open to suggestions .

we had a good dump of snow last weekend , up to 2 feet in most places , we did have rain and temperature in the plus's , so it made sledding challenging at times , the rivers and lake are snow covered but with flood water , so please be careful , Kakwa lake has had lot of traffic on it so it should be fairly safe . Snow pits we dug to check condition and there was a weak area about 2 feet down , and slides were being trigger off by sleds so be prepared !! and be careful !!

So all that snow we supposedly got last week is all hard now, the snow alternates from firm to hard to glare ice depending on where you go, the rain and heat really got to it. Most creeks are open, the river is open water in lots of spots, and kakwa and babett lakes had flood water on them.

Thinking Tumbler would be about the same? Wanted to head there tomorrow

I would imagine so, some of the north facing hills still had softer snow on them, but the the rain ruined a lot of snow, in places it looks as if it rained so hard there were streams of water flowing down the hills, it looked really cool but wasn't much fun to ride on. If its a bit warmer the snow should soften a bit but won't be like fresh by any means, but it still worked out alright for us as we had a few novice riders along so they could go almost anywhere without getting stuck.

Few buddies of mine were in Tumbler on Thursday. Said it was pretty warm and the snow was wet and heavy so I'd imagine it's not that great by now.

Tumbler also has hard icky snow. Year is a write off. Kakwa trail is amazing though even after 200 sleds have been on it. If you're looking for a chill ride just to get out its good. Did the broadview loop on Sunday. Cecille is good to cross some open water on the edges. Creeks in the meadows are wide open and flowing and the creek back up to the Y from Cecile is open in some spots. Little sketchy but its do-able! Kakwa lake had flood water and it froze so it's really rough just around the bend at the point. Overland trail is rougher than all $&%? Don't recommend going around the lake lol. But kakwas good to go out and explore in the trees and find new places to go to when there is snow since you can pretty much go anywhere at this point. Lol

Go anywhere snow in Kakwa, nothing new to speak of anywhere. Trails great, lots of the ice bridges on Cecile creek are starting to drop out, keep your head up.

Snowed all day. Don't know if it snowed all night but it was great. Did a little climbing but the visibility to too sketchy so we stayed in the trees down around broadview and had a blast. Trail is in excellent shape and the snow isn't bad. It's about 8 inches of fresh while we were riding through the trees. Never seen so many people heading to Kakwa as I did last night comming out it was non stop sledders the whole way out the two lakes road. It's gonna be packed out there. Trying to get back out this weekend but might not make it till Monday. So worth heading out if u can. I was at valemount last weekend and the riding at Kakwa is 10 times better right now

Heading into kakwa tomorrow for a tour. Anyone else been in this week or on the weekend. I hear the road is crummy. Just trying to keep my sliders cool. Lol.

Heard there was about 8in of fresh, but it is melting and getting heavy,.. but still good riding, not too sure about the trail in though.

Came out Monday there was rain and snow all night Sunday on the river. Was some fresh higher but not alot that wasn't tracked up hard. Old trail is open to the rocks by stinking spring and new trail is getting thin.

Lots of water on the road too.
