Hi Guys,
I am coming down to the Missoula area to take my buddy out for a first ride. He is completely new to the sport so we are looking for good information about riding locations and rental recommendations. Two of us will be riding with will bring along our 20 and 40 years of experience, safety gear and 154 summits. My hopes are to find some areas that are easily navigated via a good trail system that offers some diversions to some fun meadows and mild back country play areas. Other bits of information that might be helpful are any requirements for passes, access fees, guide requirements vs solo riding etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

Head east to seeley lake, excellent riding for all abilities. Very nice acccomadtions with lots of sled to your door cabins on the lake. I believe a montana yearly trail pass is $25. They are available many places in town. One of my new favourite spots to sled.

Thanks Turbofarmer. The Seeley lake area does look really nice both from a ride quality and proximity perspective. Do you know if you get a trail system map with your annual trail pass? I assume I could buy one if not. Tentatively planning for a late January early February ride which I hope provides many miles of powder :)

I have also been to seely lake. Good groomed trails. Another spot I liked was Lolo pass south of Missoula. There was a daily fee there, $10 a family or something. It was cheap. There is some hot springs close to it also for staying at or an end of the day relaxation.

Glad to hear Lolo is open for sledding. My buddy has been up there before hunting or hiking but never in the winter. He thought it would be good but wasn't sure about the access for sleds.
