Just throwing it out there to get an idea if it is worth pursuing. We are about 5.5hrs away from the Sweetgrass border crossing in Canada. We normally ride Valemount or Revelstoke BC, but we have been tossing around the idea of making a run south to change it up a bit. I'm just somewhat curious to know what's out there. I drive through Montana every summer to go dirt biking in the St Anthony dunes and have seen some of the country down there and would like to give sledding a shot somewhere along the way. I always hear Whitefish and Cooke City are good places to go, but don't know anything about them. I'd be looking to hire a guide I think just to make things easier. So, is there somewhere down there that I should look into going late April? Or is all the snow usually long gone by then? I should add, this won't be a family trip, it would be a group of friends (guys) from about 25-35, all with a good amount of mountain riding experience, proper gear and training. So we would likely be looking for somewhere with a good nightlife as well and good riding. Thanks in advance for any input.

We were in Cooke City, MT for the first week of March. Snow Was Awesome. Not much of a night life there, although there are bars and such. I hear that West Yellowstone has a much better night life scene.

Here are some resources for you:

Cooke City Snow Depth - They will have plenty of Snow in late April! West Yellowstone is not far so, I am sure you can count on the same chart for there as well.

Soda Butte Lodge where we stayed - There is a super 8 there as well that you can stay at

And of Course - Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center

Hopefully this gets you off to a good start... Have fun!
