i would think you are always better off being as self sufficient as you can. getting out and doing is way more satisfying than watching someone on TV. great idea to store long term food, and supplies. and to learn the skills to stay alive when civilization shuts down. water procurement is going to be vital as well as staying warm, getting enough to eat, and shelter from the elements. u-tube is a great resource as well as outdoor training. the way things are going now, may be needed sooner than later.

Your so old you likely have nothing to worry about... I'd be more concerned about wetting the bed than the apocalypse at your stage in life.....

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
Dang, my dog is such a good predator he would feed me forever. It would have to be raccoon, possum, rabbit, mice, moles and rat tho.

Coolest thing ever was when I shot a coyote. I got in the utv to go get it. It was 300ft away and 20 ft off the road. My boy ran ahead and dragged Mr. Coyote right on the side of the road for me to pickup! It was spooky smart.

Water-Check
Food-10 days, not quite enuff
Shelter-Safe
Security-Lots
Fuel-2 gallons
Book on off grid living-Check

I would say I’m 80% confident of survival in Shtf scenario but only 35% prepared.

No way, my city more country boy did this today. He killed a rabbit but didn’t eat it. He usually does. He left it in a spot where he is camouflaged at 80ft away. He used the rabbit to bait the eagles, hawks and ravens. It’s like he is fishing but with with no fishing rod. Dog fishing for birds of prey? He doesn’t care about song birds though. He will lay on the grass and they can be all around him. He likes the big ass birds of prey. He will try and kill one. It’s so messed up to see how he thinks.

He actually farms the rabbits. He lets them reproduce and let’s them multiply. Then at some point, he decides they are delicious and he eats them but still leaves a couple to reproduce and the cycle starts over. It’s so weird but cool!

let me know when he catches a crow off guard, my smaller quicker Karelian mix caught one, they both also do a cool trick where the dig a hole in the snow and jump beside it to push mice into the open hole and catch them. Lots of rabbits and also have caught 4 weasels, and those things are mean. However I never allow then to chase moose, besides being stomped to death with one wrong move, it’s a big no-no for me. Last summer the smaller one also caught 3 pack rats in one night. But since we are talking prepping, I don’t think I would eat any of the things they catch but rabbits. Can’t imagine what a weasel would taste like...blahhh. I would put pics up but don’t know how from my phone, but my malamute cross is my avatar pick with the full set of antlers.

still need to pick up a few sets of painter plastic coveralls. a few cheap tarps and a 2 week supply of food, canned goods, dry goods. i have lots of freezer food with a stand by generator for when power goes out. i am also going to fill up the propane tanks and gas cans. need to set up the two 400 litre gas tanks for gravity feed use. maybe one gravity feed and throw one into the truck. gas likely won't be 89 cents for long?

I like to prep... generally for Steak Diane where I cut the shallots thinly, keep in a separate bowl until needed, same with the fresh garlic but those I mash vs cut. Worst case scenario we would just call Skip the Dishes!
