What are some Sage words of advice or helpful tips you'd give to riders getting into the sport for the first time?

What would you lend forth to riders who are getting back into the sport after years of hiatus?

Thank you Peepsters! :beer::beer::beer:

Take time to learn your equipment, beacons, probe and how to use a shovel properly.

Don't put chicken nuggets in your muff pot without wax paper

I read this a few times and I really do agree. Test out your gear for functionality before you head up into the backcountry. This is a really good point.

It depends are we mountain riding or trail riding or pipeline power line and Bush riding?

I guess the common thing for all 3 is to stay within your comfort zone. And after awhile when your comfort builds then start to expand it. You dont need to follow my track. Of you stop an i no longer see you. I will come back for you. And I'd expect that from them.

For trails explain the hand signals. No that's not a wave. That's how many sleds are behind that rider.

And mountains I'd make them do one or two test trails with a beacon just so they have a better understanding how they work.

Don’t do it. It’s one of the worst addictions for human kind.

You will get stuck.......a lot. It’s ok. You will get better. Don’t get frustrated and have fun.

Hire a guide or ride with people that know the area. Getting lost when you're experienced is no fun. A lot worse if you have no idea where you are or what you're doing. Also ride with good people. Who you are with (especially when you are new) can make or break a day of sledding.Ride with a beacon/probe/shovel and have at least a basic knowledge of what to do with them.If you get hooked like I did and plan on riding a lot, take an AST course.You can rent or borrow gear for the first couple rides.
