Have you considered using the ? It provides a really immersive view, although mounting the camera on your shovel handle also sounds like a good idea too. GoPro have just released their which can also be used for other cameras. The tether loops through the hing on the back door of the GoPro...

Forgot to answer your second question - most people use the for hood mounting (although as mentioned before using a tether or leash is always a good idea with suction cup mounts).

The new mount will work with any of the but it isn't available as an accessory. I expect that Drift will release it as an accessory although we don't have a firm date on when that will happen.

I've found the audio on the GoPro HD Hero 2 to be very much the same as on the HD Hero - I'm pretty sure they've used the same microphone.
