Take a Look at These Plugs Please

Great info, Thanks! We did a complete belt alignment and adjustment on the sled and it definatly helped. It appears the belt was a bit to tight and would get hot sitting and idling and drag the motor down. Last time out she ran like a top. But I will get a set of the brass needle / seats and...

    H.A.C questions

Yeah, ours is a 1996 and the vacuum pod had simply lost its air behind the diaphram. We had a spare pod and it needed calibrated too. Suprisingly, they both have held calibration now and it has bee a month or longer. I tried this because it was easy and I didnt have to gather up parts to do...

Well she survived a mountain run over the weekend. We were as high as 7500 feet and the HAC did fine. It was still pulling good rpm and no fouled plugs. Sled runs really strong. We are still fighting an irratic idle issue with it. Some times it wants to pull down and idles really slow (under...

Throttle stuck open = not cool at all.

We have a 96 Summit 670 and we have gutted the air box ( removed the shelf) We do not have a problem with water. Our carbs fit into the air box very tightly with rubber gromets. In fact we lightly grease the rubber to aid in them sliding over the carbs easier. Is your air box missing the...

Thanks Drewski, The plug chop test worked well. It is nice to be able to see and read the results of a test. So many methods of plug reading leave you wondering and not positively sure. It is hard to tell from your photo of your plugs, but they looked almost identical to mine as fa as color...

Update! We pulled the cabs off of the 96 Summit 670 and found that the float level was a bit low. So we raised it to specs. .772". Then we installed the larger mains of PTO 390 Mag. 380 It was colder today so we felt we were going to get a better test as far as normal conditions and temp...

Throttle stuck open = not cool at all.

Then I am with "Forever RMK" ice or something holding a slide open at least part way. If it is water (ice) I would be for pulling the carbs and drying or blowing them completely out too in a warm envirement. If that water gets to the bottom of the bowl and freezes it could restrict a jet...

I took a look and need a smaller diameter flex light. I will pick one up. But I want to do the chop too. Seems to me the wash would be a slower reacting observation where the plug chop is a direct indication of what was just going on a WFO... oops I mean WOT. Thanks to all. Jeff

How high is it reving? If for some reason it has gone lean it will rev up. Or are you sure the throttle is indeed open? Jeff

I have thought of pulling the head too. I just milled .020" of it and was right at .050" on the clearences. Might be nice to make sure all is clearing ok. I dont think I could see enough of the piston domes any othe way. Jeff

Thanks Drewski, got it. That sounds good to me. We use to put new ones in every pass on the race car to read abd ballance each cylinder. I had not seen the info you posted before. Looking forward to seeing how new plugs look after a blast. I will use the existing plugs to warm up and change...
