I suspect that they went with propane because it is safer. Not everyone knows that if you leave the damper wide open on a wood stove that you risk burning the chimney out and starting the cabin on fire. The other reason would be that they can put the propane heater on a timer so that it is only turned on when people are present. Another reason is that two or three one hundred pound bottles are easier to haul up than however many cords of wood will be burned in a winter. Cutting and splitting wood requires a lot of man-hours whereas refilling propane cylinders not o much. Is propane heat as nice as wood heat, No, but when you have a limited number of members doing all the work, the convenience of propane all of a sudden starts to look very attractive.
I could be wrong but I'm guessing that the reasons I listed are why no wood stove.

that's right I forgot to mention the "no Access" in Summer thing that you have to contend with. Our cabin's are accessible 365 days of the year. Sometimes thats a good thing and sometimes not.

The new propane heaters put out a lot of heat, one is enough to heat the cabin and there is two in there. Try not to put your stuff right above the heaters or on the top of the existing heating grills. They get real hot and they will melt your items. When the water and crap enters the heaters damage is done to the heat exchangers, please put your things beside an not on top to drip into them. There is shrouds currently being built to take care of this problem and drying racks.

Nice job of the add on !! Just have a ? +maybe a suggestion. Which way does the wind blow most often at the cabin ? the reason i ask is ,that maybe a wing wall coming off the cabin towards the post on the porch mite help to keep the drifts piling up in front of the door .If it dosent matter disregard my post.

That's why they placed the door in a different direction than before. The new roof has a higher pitch than the old one as well. Hopefully they wont have to go up and shovel snow off the roof anymore. Barry will be keeping an eye out in case they do have to do some modifications like a wind break on the deck.

trees out front and the fact that we have put the cabin close to trees hoping that it will create a long tunnel and the snow will be dumped out the backside of the cabin. a work in progress now.
going up tomorrow with a couple guys if this snow will let up so I don't have to do snow removal. I know, everyone else is hoping it dumps.

The Cabin really does look nice. Great job guys.
We got to have a nice little bonfire last week when we were up. It was a socked in, so we stopped in to see if we could lend a hand and got to burn the scrap wood pile and old rafters which made for quite the blaze.

Thankyou to Neilsledder who made these real nice drying racks. Dropped them off at the Powderstation today for some powdercoat. Once this is completed they will make there way to McBride and go in the cabin.

Wow... Those are some mighty sharp/pointy hooks to have in a public place, in this day of age.... I would almost suggest rounding the point off a bit? Jus' sayin' ....... They sure do look good though
