Just want to thank whoever went up the Chalco trail to the backside of Renshaw and whacked the trail thru. Haven't used it in a few years and heard it was grown over pretty bad, imagine my surprise to find a pretty good trail all the way to the falls. Looking forward to being able to access the Renshaw from this way again.

We had to tow a machine out out that way about 4 weeks ago.
I have not been down that way for a number of years.
we had a heck of mess around the water fall but other than that it was straight through.

You go to up the Holmes river road, past the trappers cabin and turn left at kilometer?????? i forget any more. Any one remember????
When we towed the machine out i was just happy to see the trail was not a willow tree forest.
The falls at times in the past were tricky but just because they would be rutted up big time. If i remember you just stay to the off to right and work your way through there.
When the renshaw was first opened up in around 1989 we would go in the blackwater way but it at times was tough as the logging road ended at about the 18 kilometer and through the trees we would go towards the anthills. So when we found the Chalco way in it was easier.

We used the trail on the weekend, was really good. There was a couple spots that could use some thinning still, but no big deal. Haven't used the trail in some time either so was happy to see it open. Really enjoy going in that way, as there is a ton of fun to be had along the trail in, and the creek up to the falls can be priceless at times. We got to the top and had the whole backside to ourselves with the exception of 3 riders that we spotted come around from the saddle and went up the staircase. A couple pics from the day. 100_2600.jpg 100_2603.jpg 100_2607.jpg 100_2610.jpg 100_2612.jpg

I goofed last weekend and rode right by the left turn.
Took about 5 kms to figure our went to far.
strange how you can ride a trail for years, and still goof.

You guys do this so you dont pay the $20 or just to be a different way in??? Seems like a little off the beaten path to leave your truck in a somewhat unprotected parking area. Is there lots of parking space or do you jam them in along the road? Just asking.

We go in that way just to remind us of the good old days of non groomed trails and when no one else was in the renshaw. Actually we orginally use to go in the black water road and then fight our way through the trees in to the ant hills. That was in 1989. We found the Chilco way in 1992 and used as most of time easier and would stop by the trapper and have a few beers. Then they extended the logging road in 1995 on the black water and we would go up through the trees to where the cabin is to day. When we first went in to the renshaw often you would be the only group in there.

If the renshaw trail is groomed, I would rather go in that way for sure. But on those heavy use days the back way is always another option.

What Maxwe said, I just find it alot more fun than a groomed highway.

Does this trail still exist?

Not likely this year.
Need snow depth to burry alders.

South Dore no better as got to last cut block but no snow to climb creek. Ran over a kazillion alders to get down trail after the Y.
Last bridge washed out and dropped 6-8'.
Had to shovel to make ramp up bank.
On way in road washed out at km 16 ish.
Next ones in will need a chain saw.
No snow in forecast S Dore may not happen this year or Chalco.

We Went up today. Never risked my sled like that in my life. Don't recommend it this year. Hole the size or your truck. Looked like couple guy tried to made a run at it last week or so to. 8CE38222-B18D-4B04-97EA-1AB4FDB2FDC1.jpeg
