The people I know that still use that way do it because it's shorter for them to get to the back areas of renshaw from where they stay and avoids the crowds up front, not because they are too cheap. And unless the trail is already broke in and it hasn't snowed over it, the stretch up the creek and falls should only be attempted by experienced mtn riders.

I didn't mean to come across as saying people were too cheap. No offence intended. Riding the ungroomed trails with 3foot moguls the entire distance in the old days have taken their toll and personally even if Blackwater is a little rough it's still a highway to us veterans. And yes early season up Chalco is a not feasible....not enough snow for the creek.

Cheers

Lots of willows for the first 15 km's and lots of work if the trail isn't in from the bridge to the alpine, spend lots of time busting it every year, going to let somebody else do the work this year

We had a sled blow a crank last year, and we rode up the chelco creek with a trapper and his daughter to bring it down. I is a very difficult ride when no one has been up. the snow was 5 feet deep in the creek and we could barely make the falls, but we made it out with the sled. The willows are a real bitch though really overgrown, it was a great ride, thank god for the trapper and his daughter or we would have never found our way. Now I have it on GPS I would try it again, the first 20k's are smooth drag racing fun, fresh snow on a level road.
Love the Renshaw

False; you can't get thru from Grande Cache. Most of the area west of Grande Cache is park...no motorized vehicles.
