Went for a Sxs ride today just north of Nelson to a place I go every year when I can, so today I found the road completly deactivated at the 8 km mark. Soooo pissed to find I can't access my beloved alpine mine. WTF! Nothing but rock above the deactivation so what's the point in depriving us of such a great place.
I'm going to fallow up with BCTS over this, just a nother land grab in my mind...guess we need to start riding in the park and piss off the public.
ugh now I feel better venting.

Yes I do. Stiring things up and got a hold of the person that has the mining claim. He was not aware that his access has been taken away. See how things progress through out the week.

Yep. They totally pulled the road just before the bridge at 8km. Not sure how far up the other side (bush side) but still baffled that atv access was not given here. I have a few people looking into it as we speak and have offered equipment to the mining company that owns the lease at no charge to have access restablished.
Feeling bcts and other crown corps have taken to much from user groups. There's alway a back door to this...bang bang!

There's been signs up there for a few years now saying they were going to deactivate it. My son looked into it a bit when he was still over there and couldn't get any answers, then he moved to Sparwood and kind of forgot about it. We were up there last summer and the signs were still up. I wondered if they were ever going to actually do it. I guess I got my answer. I wish you luck getting it re-opened. Hate to think my last trip was my LAST trip. It's an awesome ride up there. :(

The way I understand it is just because it is deactivated does not mean you have lost the privledge to be in there? I know that around here, RMH, certain roads are deactivated by oil companies and foresty. They are required to put the road back to as close to natural as possible. If any access is left for ATV's etc then someone needs to be liable for that trail. Oil companies want no part of that so its left inaccessible. Doesn't mean I can't find a way in and ride though. I do understand that some of this high country is impossible to access once the road is taken out though.

Yep, come winter I'm sure we can side hill over the deactivated road and cross the creek but as of right now it's totaly impassable by Sxs or quad without a s#*t load of digging.

I have never actually tried it, but what are the chances of coming in from Six Mile? When you go past lemon to the first switchback there is an old logging road, which maybe be used by hikers or something that runs along the creek. I thought it was a single track and started to ride up it one day. It was a grown in logging road. It would be a heck of a drainage to descend.

Perhaps? Now with the boosted sled were riding but the last time I rode into alpine on snow was on a new Indy 500. Needless to say it took everything it had just to plow into there.
really nasty ground and there's better riding areas so I've never thought of it mmmmm.

There is a lot of excellent area back there depending on what type of rising you like.

Might be able to do it this way????? Looks like there's a firegaurd from the logging area between 6 Mile and Sitkum that runs on down to the road in Sitkum above the bridge. Have no idea if it's still usable though.

I would have to look at a larger view but I believe that is where the creek comes down at that switchback.

I am game to try it out when there is enough snow n

First I heard of this road deactivation and it's a piss off. I've only been up Sitkum once, luckily I took a bunch of pics before the fire in '07. Got some up on GE too. If anyone is in for a bit of trail reconstruction let me know, I have a few friends who would like to see that opened up again.

Sounds like a plan, waiting to hear back from the claim owner to see if access can be put back. Im then going after the ministry to flip the bill as they screwed us in the first place. A mini hoe should make quick work of things.
Ill make it wide enough for us with the big xp 900s.
cheers till spring

Good on ya for this. Almost be good to have a valley to valley summer quad bike type club set up. You don't need to do much.

I know the Ex dirtbike prez had a section 57 submitted for rover to stake claim, I'll check in and see where it stands. The users of the land have got to band together and grab it while they can, just like what the Moyie club has done. These operations like MtnTrek- canadian run but European backed- are going to keep sneaking in applications for exclusive use- which i'm proud to say was denied. Well the exclusive use part was denied.

We haven't done as much as you think Steph. Keep running into roadblaocks and jurisdictional issues over FSR's versus permit roads. So far we can't get a management agreement over any of our roads/trails. We did manage to get a rec site established for camping down the Yahk river before it got destroyed by logging though. Gotta take the small victories I guess.

It's a start. I'll send jack my MOF contact and maybe you guys can strategize with him in your dealings in cranbrook. I'm pretty lucky to have our representative we have. I hear rumours of our neighbouring club signing a 20 yr agreement (from the standard 10) so we pushed it and go it too. Just like them cat ski heli ski places, all they wanna start with is a foot in the door.
All you need now are some young bucks to mentor and take the reigns. People need to clue into how important this all is.

I handle most of my presidential duties from camp in ft Mac. Easy. Free long distance. I wish I had more FtMac FIFO type people on our exec just for this reason. Who wants to do this stuff on their days off anyways. Nobody. Hence the state were in- always the same people doing the same stuff every year.
Anyhow this thread is getting detailed. Chow for now.
