I'm thinking about taking a job in Cranbrook and I was wondering what the sledding is like in the area. Also what's it like for dirt biking when it isn't sledding season? I've lived in the prairies my whole life and I have dreams of living in BC.

The Cranbrook Snowmobile Club has a relatively large managed area with a very good grooming program. There's probably 50 times that in unmanaged areas to explore as well. Lots of it's available for biking in the summer too. I've been here 60 years and still haven't seen it all.

A handful of years ago between careers I was spending a week in AB and a week in the Koots for the better part of a year, mostly working in and around Cranbrook. I really enjoyed it and the people who I met there are all around great people. The kind of people who meet you one day and invite you over for dinner, make you lunch while you are working, share their homemade choke cherry vodka, take you out for drinks and pretty much try and set you up with their daughters. And these were all different experiences with different people. Honestly, amazing people!~ lol

I did get to ride a bit in the area during winter. I found the areas to be easy to access and the locals were happy to show you around. Kimberly is a great area as well and I really enjoyed the atmosphere there. I wish I could have had more time to learn the area but St.Mary's river has a lot to offer. I have spent several weeks in the backcountry there and its nothing short of greatness. A lot of access to the area suffered during the runoff a few years ago but its been in constant repair. A lot of sledding, biking, hunting and fishing. Really anything a avid outdoors person would enjoy. It can see more traffic due to its proximity and popularity but there are numerous other areas to explore.

Cranbrook itself has a lot of amenities that people look for as well. Its a bit of a transient town as people are going from point A to B but all your major stores, a hospital, mechanical shops, a small airport near by, and so on. Its not top on my list of places I would like to someday find myself living in but it has its pluses.

He hardly ever gets lost anymore, not that he will admit anyway.
Seriously, there is more backcountry around here than you will ever be able to cover unless that is your only occupation.
Within an hours drive you can find many world class golf courses, ski hills, fishing spots, camping, lakes, etc.
Good luck on your move and I am sure you will enjoy the area.

Great area. Lumberton has great riding and the best grooming I've seen anywhere. Tons of Nice lakes in the area. Fishing is great. Summer's are hot. I would move there. But wife likes the big city! We have place at koocanusa, don't go there in winter often but spend a lot of the summer there. Love the area.

The only consistent complaint you will hear is that the shopping sucks in Cranbrook. The good news is its only 3 hours to Lethbridge if the wife needs a city fix.

Planning on heading down on December 8th or 9th, would be great to great a ride or two in when I'm in town.

I am recovering from an injury so unable to ride, If you try the Cranbrook Snowmobile Club website or facebook page you might be able to hook up with someone local.
