I have a 2004 prarie 700. I ended up in about 12 feet of water the other day. needless to say I got wet and cold, destroyed my Samsung galaxy phone, (and a new pack of smokes), and filled my quad up with water. I got it home and drained everything. ive run oil through 4 times now. it starts fine. I unbolted carbs from the intake and pulled the bottoms off and blew air through everything. the belt light is flashing as well as the 4x4 will not engage. this first big thing is that at about 1/3rd throttle it backfire and will not go any higher than that. almost like rev limiter but not. backfires through exhaust. anyone have any ideas where to start with these problems? please?

The belt light and not reving up are the same problem.

It's a limp mode.

U will have to try to reset the light ( if its like a brute there's a jumper wire under the seat to jumper the light )
Might have to take the cover off and check the belt and belt switch ...

Also may make the 4x4 not work with belt light on also as the belt and 4x4 are in the same module.

well I reset the light and now revs fine. still no 4x4. when you turn key off you can hear the actuator that's on the belt cover makin noise. doesn't look like its doing much though. does anyone know what that actuator is for that on the belt cover on the primary clutch? its got a big spring inside with a set of forks at the bottom of it. looks like it should have something to do with the primary clutch. other little issue now is that the bike smokes. oil burning by look of it. any suggestions?

Hope it stops burning. Might need top end now.

Problem is u have a hot engine then drowned it in 12 feet of cold water.

Also the fork thing is Ur engine brake ( pushes on the clutch )

Pull the fuse for the e.b.c. turn key on. Turn key off and put fuse back in.
Turn key back on and tap the cover beside it.

Mine acts up if quad has sat for some time.

Also does it go 4x4 - 2x4 back and forth on the dash ??

no it just stays in 2 wheel drive. wont go to 4x4. can hear the actuator on the front diff make a bit of noise. maybe need to pull it off and have a peak. ill try and figure out where the control unit for that actuator is under the seat. I pulled some connections apart and things were pretty dirty and scummy. hope I don't need a top end but well I probably will.

have you changed the front diff fluid? given it a good flush? could be crap in there causing the actuator to not fully extend and not engage the front diff.

well I drained the oil and filled up fuel. I had used seafoam in last oil change after swamping it. the smoking stopped right away. ran fine with no smoke for a couple days. yesterday was coming home from neihbors place and it started to smoke again. like someone turned a switch on. still runs and starts perfect. wtf now? topend still?
