I'm boycotting. Yes I recognize they donate to charity. so do I.
Lots of little reasons to support it but to me it came down to 1 thing - they didn't look at their own contribution to it all before supporting this "petition" by pulling the ads. How can you discontinue an oil company ad, WHEN 99% OF THE TIM HORTONS HAVE A DRIVE THRU SPECIFICALLY PROMOTING "DON'T GET OUT OF YOUR CAR" AND EVERYTIME YOU DRIVE BY THERE IS A LINE UP OF CARS SITTING THERE BURNING FOSSIL FUELS! That is the epitome of being a hypocrite if you ask me.
Close the drive thrus and you just did more for the environment than anyone who signed the petition ever did in their life. You can't support oil production from Ft Mac and want to make the world a better place you say Timmy's? Why not make it mandatory to "bring your own cup"? This would have a far more significant reduction on the Tim Hortons "environmental footprint" than some petition about the oilsands.....

So the paid activists got 28000 signatures on there petition and Canada's #1 news hawk Ezra Levant could only muster up 8600 signatures on his hand delivered petition to the Canadian COO of Timmie's in Oakville? Maybe this isn't as big a deal as we think it is?

Just some food for thought…. It is important to note that boycotting Tim’s is going to hurt your local owner more than anything, and your local owner had no input on whether the ad stayed or got pulled. The company as a whole will still make their money, and this is really only going to hit a few markets hard (like ours here in Calgary and places like Fort Mac.). Tim’s locations in other provinces are probably not going to have any repercussion as the general public in those provinces don’t really give a crap, especially in a place like Ontario where the decision was made to pull the ad. In Alberta where the market is already down, boycotting your local Tim’s isn’t going to do anything except hurt your neighbors.
WOW Ezra Levant, has taken his jackass policies to a new lower level. Must bel slow in Ontario...Who does he give a chit about? Us albertans? or his attention whoring?

I don't know....I think maybe the jackasses are the "special interest" groups (usually US or foreign based) who are speaking out against our oil sands, back country access, etc. I think Ezra is speaking up for us Canadians although he does use some sensationalism in his reporting....as do most media outlets today.
I rarely stop at Tim Hortons but after watching the video I am a bit discouraged on how Tim's is handling this...they seem to be ignoring us Canadians.
Maybe more of us need to speak up and voice our opinions against these special interest groups from the tree huggers who are making it harder for us to access public areas with our motorized vehicles to the way we process our oil.

Geeeez I always felt Ezra was pro west and pro oil? He is anti Islam and anti occupy movement as well. I kinda like the guy. He sensationalizes everything but he gets your attention doesn't he?
I'd challenge that by saying that most Tim's franchise owners are not my peer group or neighbours. Take a good look at who's working the counter for minimum wage next time you're there, not the owner that's for sure. Tims takes a cheap to produce commodity, adds in low cost labour and then has a huge markup. The return on investment is pretty high, and therefore there's a reason the buy-in to the franchise is HUGE. Lots of owners have more than 1 location. Let's be clear - Me boycotting Tims isn't putting a dent in anyone's pocket. Its about principle on my level, on many levels that have already been pointed out, at what point will we stop being so nice stand up for ourselves as a country. I'm not expecting this to go national, and I'm sure it will be over once the next Ebola or NPD budget or whatever makes the news next week. There's like a dozen coffee shops on the way to my office, just as easy to hit another brand though.
As mentioned, most of the sigs on the petition were from people who don't live in AB. How do you know that most of the sigs on the petition didn't come from out of work oilfield labour in the US, where they don't really have Tim Hortons anyway? Probably not, but its silly to allow people who don't use/support your business to impact your business decisions with simply an uninformed OPINION. If someone in Louisiana signed a petition to ban sled sales in Canada, or to close a certain riding area (maybe like...oh....Jumbo?) wouldn't you like to know that folks here wouldn't allow uninformed foreign OPINION to dictate our domestic policy? Its easy to say that it won't happen, and then all of a sudden it just did.
