I have good luck with a face cloth and axe body soap for clean up. Before that I just used gun cleaner or acetone or what ever thinner I had lying around, than I found out that was a really really bad idea.
Doesnt sound like you wasted to much, I figured 2 pails for an average garage. They really put a lot of paint on quickly. One of the few tools that will pay for itself in one job.

I remember when I first started messing around with sprayers and went through some princess auto and Canadian tire models. They are good for misting plants with water or spraying stains, not painting. A good paint sprayer can make a novice painters work look great.

A good moisturizing shampoo removes paint well I find.

Tip choice is a big part of spraying too. I bought my airless from one of the rental shops was clearing out their equipment. Was cheaper to buy it than rent it. Over each use I ended up trying different tip sizes. Made a big difference depending on the job and type of paint. Airless sprayers are a lot of fun, that's for sure. Have done the entire exterior of our house twice now.
