anyone have any tracks for this area ?
thinking of going there this summer ,
after the Aug long weekend starting on Mon

can see some camping spots on google earth ,
but Im looking for tracks in the HAPPY face ,
or if anyone else is going to be there at that time

do not care for mud , just scenic rides ...

Huge area and lots of roads. I don't know about the re-construction of the bridges after the flood. If the summer is dry the creeks will be low by August and travel will be easy. You can go north (Dutch Creek) and cross into BC via the North Fork Pass. Work your way south and do a big circle. I am sure guys from the Pass will chime in as well as Kaz Dog who it with the Calgary snowmobile club and does a lot of work in that area.

Years ago I did some miles in there on a dirtbike. I think it was mid August. All I remember is a fair amount of fast water. I'd also like some tracks of the area.

Pick up a back roads map book for Southern Alberta. Or better yet, if you have a GPS you could get the back roads GPS maps. The trails and maps are marked well in the book though.

It's a busy area.

I do have the backroads with maps on my GPS , but do NOT show that many trails , I few , would help if I had some tracks that others have did , THANKS

Seems like you should use Google Earth and just mark out the trails that you want from your camp. Trails/cut lines all over the place. One the image below, I marked North Fork Pass on the BC Alberta border and Dutch Creek (this is a general term and I could have put the waypoint in many different places). You can zoom in, zoom out, get altitude, etc.. It won't show you the washouts from the flood but you can deal with those as you come across them. It is a great area and there are lots of options.

I know that I can do the map from google earth ..
but getting someone else information ,
and a reference to how the ride is , is what I'm looking for ...

It looks like you may just have to go create your own GPS tracks. I am not sure what additional info you are looking for in regards to the "trails". The trail system there is fairly basic and much of which has been shared. I honestly do not keep GPS tracks for that area as its easy to navigate due to its proximity to the trunk road.

Sorry but my tracks are in my head. I use way-points as reference points when necessary. I may not have been into a place for 10 years but I will remember the trail.

My way-points are marked sporadically with usually highlighted landmarks. I mark all cabins and most of the hazards that I encountered. But I'm sorry I don't save tracks.

There is plenty of information right here in this thread for a damn good ride. Is it a confidence issue? I plan on hitting this area early this season and making tracks. Run off I'm thinking will be minimal this year.

just that I have young family and what to get he most out the rides without spending time in and out dead ends , etc.

Pretty soon I'm taking the truck down to Maycroft, into Livingstone Gap and around to Coleman to look for some hint of the eagle migration. I don't think there was enough snow this winter for that loop to be snow covered right now. There is no snow in the hills along highway #22.

If I had young family and was random camping in the area, I would be more concerned about bears than a GPS. Didn't you mention something about scenery? That dead end road will take you to elevation and probably a landing with a scenic view. If I were young and had to do it over again, I would do every road I could find and expand that process everyday I was out there. I would have been an expert on where the trails went and what joined with what, camping spots, fishing spots, scenic spots, etc.. and it would still be in my head today. Just get out there and do it. You will be a little nervous at first but everyday it will get a little more familiar and you will feel right at home.

We go out there a lot for camping and quadding. All of the trails are pretty simple a few tight spots and one place that scares me across the river on a hill with nothing on both sides but a 20 foot drop (afraid of heights). So I just turn around there now. Most of the trails I have been on go with the road or up to the top of a mountain. I take our son and dog and love the sights. They both love it out there too. Out there I have never used a map or GPS you do not need it.

Have a great time out there you will love it.

you guys just do not get it ..

I quad in the bush a lot ..
not afraid of anything ..
just want to make it simple and waste time trying to find the good spots and trails
