Best place to live in Alberta?

My votes for central ab, i spent my whole life west of edmonton and wouldn't change it. Just bought our acreage out by wabamun, surrounded by lakes for fishing and boating, lots of local atv, and snowmobile trails. Close to lots of campgrounds. spruce grove and stony plain have damn near everything you could ever need and then edmonton is only another 20 min. plus the drive to valemount and mcbride ain't that bad. Just to bad there isn't any snow right now.

Hope to have my 3rd completed within 3 months, with any luck. Just getting over a nasty eye infection that put me in hospital for a few weeks and that messed up my studies a bit..but who knows I may fluke off the 3A1 exam I write next Monday. Thanks for tip on Methanex, will keep an eye on them.

Birch Hills, interesting. A brother lived out there for ten years so, I spent a lot of time in that town.

Lots of votes for central AB. Nephew is in Red Deer area and said I would like it, but have to get on a plant that will accept a lowly 4th (at the moment)or look at something new.

In general are things slowing down a lot out there?

I don't know who owns it but one of the gas plants near Edson hired a bunch of 4ths about a year and a half ago. I've never spent much time there but geographically I think it would be a nice location where you aren't too far away from everything.

My husband is convinced we need to move to Kelowna. He and I spent a long weekend there last summer and fell completely in love. If I didn't love my job, and have my family here, I'd move in a heart beat to Kelowna. But then He'd have to work here.

I don't love our sleepy little town anymore. It's overrun by transient workers who don't pay taxes or whatever and put a huge strain on our infrastructure, fill our restaurants and make the town way too busy for my liking. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, it's just different, I know it's good for the economy (sort of) but I miss it when it was quieter.

Thankfully we don't rent cause rental prices are ridiculous around here these days. Not to mention fast food, gas, and other consumables.

what's worse is when you go into your favorite dealer in said town and get the "demand" of "why didn't you bring coffee's".......

In fairness, I don't think it was a demand so much as an under caffeinated plea for the good stuff.

It looks like your priority is finding a good job as a PE3. Just googled Power Engineer Employment Opportunities Alberta and saw lots of results. Maybe Ft Saskatchewan as there are lots of plants of all kinds in the area. Close to NAIT too but not in Edmonton.

I can't agree with this enough! My girlfriends the same, could move to bc in a heartbeat except for family and my job being here.

Only looking at PE because thats what my ticket is in, and other than that I can only offer a useless history degree and experience as a jail guard..which isnt the best option for a generally happy career. Would I consider doing something else if the opprtunity arose? Absolutely, especially if it is in an area we like. But I have had my head buried in PE since 2011, so I havent really thought about what else I could do. Thought about elevator repair they are needed all over, maybe stores/parts (ours at COOP Refinery makes almost (50/hr with 1/10 the stress of an operator), so not stuck on PE. Decide where we want to be then look at what is offered in that area.

Guards are in high demand at Grande Cache Institution. If you are OK living there you are pretty much set for life, as they have real trouble getting and keeping staff due to the remote location.

Tough thread. As mentioned,its kind of bias. Generally people are happy where ever they plant roots, which is a good thing. I've had the opportunity to live in several different areas and have worked pretty much all over the western provinces. It boils down to how you want to live your life and how close you want your family. I have everything that's been mentioned in this thread as I'm sure lots of others do as well.
I live in the foothills 20 min. west of Rocky. Close to my family, 10 minutes from the mountains, 10 minutes from a large boat able lake, 5 minutes from a trout stream, my land borders crown land, sledding, quading and biking out of my yard, paved to my doorstep (literally). Closest neighbour is 400m (best neighbour ever) next closest neighbour is over a Km. Horses, cows and the whole bit. This is how I chose to live my life and absolutely love it. Tons of work here too.
I lived in Whitecourt for 8 yrs on an acreage. Hated it. Too many people and crack heads. Chit was always getting stolen. Mini GP.
