My friend and I were at Valmont and McBride this past weekend and we stayed at the Terrecana Ranch. We sledded at Allen Creek on Saturday and at the end of the day when we were heading back to the Ranch we noticed the helicopter and an Ambulance in the Clemina Parking lot. It was obvious that some one had a bad day in the mountains. When we got back to the Ranch we had heard that another guest at the Ranch was the victim of a heart-attack at Clemina ( hence the ambulance and helicopter ). We had heard that this gentlemen was 48 years old and was stuck in a creek when they had found him and he had died as a result. We noticed the other three friends of his (that were with this gentlemen) - were at the Ranch that night but I personally did not feel that it was appropriate to ask them anything or offer condolences at this time since this was truly a shock. I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of this gentlemen and also bring to light that mountain sledding is a demanding sport. I suggest that at least one person per group be capable or CPR and first -aid. I have taken first -aid but I must say that first-aid takes practice and in an emergency situation it may be hard to implement. I am not saying that CPR or First Aid would have prevented this particular incident but I know it is good knowledge to have. Such an incident made me think about the consequences - I have been stuck in a creek and it is physically demanding to get out- especially if we are over 40 years old. I thought I would share this thought with the group
