This is my first rink for the 2 year old.
20x30 tarp, 4-2x6x16's and 2-2x6x8 .
So rink is 16'x20 flooded 3 times when it was -23 it made a nice surface.it's good fun. Just have to build a homemade zamboni now! Makes me proud to be a Canadian!

Post pictures of your rink if ya got them!

We thought about it especially considering we got our 3 munchkins all skates for Christmas this yr. my 2 year old skates are the coolest. Almost use them for a key chain when he's done!! We have a small pond a few blocks away. Try that this yr. maybe next yr build a rink.

I read somewhere that a tarp or plastic will save your grass! I will find out in the spring I guess !

I did not use plastic or tarp last year. Waited till the first snowfall then got a sprinkler and watered for a few hrs. Then I strapped some snow shoes on and compressed the slush and let it freeze. After that simply added more water until it was smooth. Grass came out no problem in the spring/summer. This year I am using plastic just to try and save a bit more water from escaping. Should have bought a tarp instead. Area looks flat until you start filling with water! Oh well next year!

All I have ever done was let the end of the hose lay on the ice and swung it back and forth on the ice and it floods just like glass...that zamboni looks pretty slick though.biggest thing i have found is thin floods work better than trying to flood it really thick...

I agree thin floods are better as the ice tends to be more brittle with heavy floods. Nice rink by the way!!! Spent some time on ours yesterday and starting to look ok but not ready yet. Got to -5 last night so that helped!

With this warm weather, the ice is finally starting to smarten up, it was really pebbled when I first cleaned it off, and now it's slowly getting smoothed out.
