For those of you curious about its back story and potential hidden dangers I invite you to read below:
Our faithful dryer of three years just kicked the bucket. Man could that machine dry - we used to watch it spin in awe and refer to it as "Drako the Magnificent". You see in our house, three years of solid service will earn a machine such a title.
Drako's gone now what do we do?
We put our heads together and did the first thing that came to mind. "Search the used dryer section on Kijiji for a deal."
Family High Five! - someone cracked open a laptop and we huddled around the glowing screen with hope in our eyes.
To our surprise pages upon pages of used and refurbished dryers quickly sprung forth.
Some of the dryers were from private sellers and others from businesses with good credentials. Of course we chose to play it safe and opt for a business that had key words like "BBB accreditation" and "Warranty" in the description. These principles tend to have a calming effect on the mind of a would-be customer. Someone made mention of the old adage "Don't part with good coin without first seeing the cow (or whatever)". - but we hushed his unwelcomed paranoia and continued the search.
What's the worst that could happen we thought?
We ordered a fine looking unit from a used appliance outfit that said everything would be simple - Easy even - and the guys came and installed it the next day The replacement dryer looked a little downtrodden - he was definitely no Drako - but before making assumptions we figured it would be smart do a test load and then decide.
Here's where this story gets a bit weird.
We chose the boldest among us to approach the beast and insert a few washed clothes for the test. As soon as the "start' button was pressed - Someone yelled "Do you smell that?" We did - a smell only to be described as a mix between tobacco, electricity and diesel was coming from the dryer.
Someone else swore they wouldn't be wearing those clothes ever again. I believed them. I had no idea what to make of the cacophony but something was not right.
Even after this obvious red flag presented itself on the dryer's first use we somehow were in such astonishment and denial at the ridiculousness that we decided to try it again. Regardless of how many times we pressed the start button on the dryer it spun and then it shut off after precisely 3 minutes.
Ok what do we do now?
Well maybe the dryer we purchased had issues from day 1, so logically the company that said everything would be Easy with their appliances would present an Easy solution right?.
Wrong.
We made calls, left voicemails reporting the problem and requesting a refund, texted and were ignored on the first day Then they accepted our e-transfer for the payment on the same day after we tried to get some help. Red flag number 2 - ballsy move grasshoppers, get the money first - touché!
After being ignored on day one we got ahold of someone on day two but were refused a refund based on a policy that was not disclosed beforehand. They said their policy was to fix or replace if any issues presented themselves in 90 days. We were hoping for some allowance considering it was hour 1 of day 1 but that clause did not exist. We didn't examine the cow - DOH!
A tough choice of calling it was made. Lesson learned and whatnot. Sometimes it might be wiser to play it safe and shop with reputable companies instead of forgoing red flags in the quest for a deal. Pay for the customer service, warranties and refunds people - lest you end up on an Appliance quest that is anything but Easy.

Lol 8500 in their dreams. I sold our 03 Escalade with a rebuilt transmission and 240 000 km for 3500 and there wasn't anything wrong with it. That trail Blazer would be worth 2000 if it was in good shape.
